Tax due May 1st - no reminder again!

I went into a bit of a panic today, when I thought my tax may have expired at the end of March, but fortunately it is the end of April.
Yet again, I have received no reminder, and I wonder how many others haven't since the doing away with tax discs.
Is this a government ploy to get more money through fines?
I am definitely going to start displaying the tax receipt in the old tax holder, because it is only a matter of time before I forget.

Do you have a calendar? A Pin board, to flag up reminders? Or use the calendar on your phone or PC, to remind you.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

Is there any errors on your V5 such as wrong postcode?

On page 2 there is a Doc Ref number. Just after that is a date. What's the date on it?

I've just had a reminder for the tax on a car that expires at the end of the month.

That's why I'm asking for the Doc Ref date. Everyone swears blind the details are correct without bothering to look. If you have to type out the date chances are you've had to look.

Have you moved and not updated the DVLA with the new address for both car tax and driving license (separately)

It's only the 17th. How much notice do you need?

Also - put that doc ref into the Vehicle Enquiry website, and you can see if that's the most recent V5C.

I have had the car 5 years, have not moved house, and the date in section 10 of the V5C is 20 04 12.
My name and address details are correct.

Don't have a smart phone, but I do keep a daily diary, so will put it in there as well.
