Hi all, were travelling to Australia this week & was wondering whilst we are there if it will be best to pay for goods in Dollars or pounds on our debit & credit cards ? any help greatly appreciated. David

    the general rule is to spend in local currency as the card companies will give a better exchange rate than the retailers.
    The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....

    Which credit/debit cards do you have? Although it's a bit late to apply for new ones, if you are in possession of a Halifax Clarity card, or a Kalixa Pay (prepaid card), it would be best to use these. In any case, pay in local currency as mgdavid mentions.

    ALWAYS pay in the local currency.

    Which cards will you be using?

    And next time, start asking questions a month before you travel to give you time to apply for better options!

    Thanks all for your kind replies, we have several debit cards & a TSB credit card with a prepaid post office card (£750) & a little cash, I appreciate all your replies, so kind thank you
