Reclaiming money back from various payday loan companies 17th Jul 15 at 9:32 PM
Hi all just wanted to share some good news regarding payday loan companies.....
From early 2011 until mid 2014 I too was caught in the payday loan trap, all my own fault may I add, I borrow the money and in the end paid every penny back, would estimate 15000 over the years maybe 20.
Early this year I saw all the news regarding payday loan companies and irresponsible lending, unfair interest etc etc etc, so I decided to have ago and try and get a few quid back myself.
So far I have been in contact with 5 of the companies I was lending multiple loans from at the same time with many roll overs too, I have received 4 apologies and offers totalling over 5000 and the other complaint is now with the ombudsman.
I never expected these amounts back but if you too were in the same situation, get all your facts in order and get complaining, from the initial email sent I had the money back within 8 weeks.

I have received a reply from both Wonga and Lending Stream and both are not willing to budge, so would really appreciate advice.

LENDING STREAM have said that according to information given the loan seems affordable.

WONGA have said they do not investigate loans that are over 6 years old.

Are these correct? Or shall I go to the Financial Ombudsman?

    Thanks

Hi, I'm a newbie to this forum & would like advice.
After reading this thread I sent emails to lending stream, wonga, payday express and payday uk.
Lending steam came back to today stating I'd 9 loans from 2011 to 2013. States they did checks blah blah. I was trapped with these 4 companies for years.
I defaulted my loan with them. They said they are prepared to write it off and that's it.
I replied asking for details of loans so I can make a better reply. I'm thinking of taking it to fos.
Was using a diff bank at time so waiting on statements coming too go through them.
Anyone else dealings with lending steam?
    Thanks

If your loans are over 6 years old you need to include something along the lines of

I only found out I could make this sort of irresponsible lending complaint in [August/September 2017 or whenever you made your initial complaint]. !I understand the Financial Ombudsman will consider all my loans, including those that are more than 6 years old.

    Update on my claims

Yesterday I got an email from Wonga saying they are still investigating my complaint (they've had it 4 weeks) and will be in touch within the next 4 weeks.

Today I received a letter in the post from Wage Day Advance saying they are still investigating (complaint sent the same day as Wonga's - 15th August) and will send another letter in the next 4 weeks with either there final response or reasons why they aren't in a position to provide one.

No update from Sunny/Elevate since their initial email saying they would reply within 8 weeks.

I've sent emails to both Wonga & QQ but had no acknowledgement/reply. How long should I wait before resending/chasing up?

Checked my bank this afternoon and there it is. Refund depositing on day 12 from Wonga. Such a good feeling to get something back from them.
I have taken responsibility for these loans and I regret ever taking one but they could and should have helped me more.
Let's hope my 2 other complaints with FOS bring more like this. What a relief!

Soooooooo I thought that I had heard the end of my complaints, but over 90 days from ombudsmans decision and 65days from payout Date but the loans from LS are still on my credit files. I know it can take a while to update, but getting fidgety. And I've even deleted my account to reset the report date and as of yesterday they were still on there. I have phoned to ask the q but the relevant dept have gone home.
Any one else had anything similar to this happen to them???

My initial complaint went in June 30th. Took the full 8 weeks to respond with an offer.
Accepted and 12 working days later finally have the money in my account and loans off my credit file.
Good luck, stay persistent with them! It takes time but so so worth it

As I said before I always paid them on time, its the fact I had to keep re loaning from each company the day after I had paid them back and in other instances roll the loans over multiple times, one which was rolled over 20 times......I always had to borrow from one to pay another.
Some people are quick to judge and give all these high and mighty comments.....again I will say if these companies did nothing wrong why would the pay me and many others back, they dont make huge profits by giving free money away there is always a reason.

I have borrowed regularly from PD loan companies for the last few years. Sometimes extending the loan, inceasing the loan, paying off and borrowing again within a month.
What steps do I need to take?

    Thank you

Anyone who went to FOS, how long did they take to get back to you? I have had letters confirming they have asked the companies for their side so looking for an idea how long from that point?
