PAPER ROUND - what`s min age ?

Our son who`s 11 and just started High School has been offered a paper round in the mornings but Mrs `Builder reckons you need to be 13 at least before you start work
I`m sure this is not the case but does anyone know for sure
thanks

In UK - its 13. He will need to complete forms from the newsagent (or you will, rather!) and they check with the school etc. He then gets via the newsagent, a "permit" to work.

Newsagents (and newspaper publishers) should not be taking on anyone for paper rounds who is under 13 (as skylight said) as (I think) it's illegal for them to do so.

It used to vary from Local Education Authority but I'm sure that these days generally they are all the same. This is relevant to my area.

Although you should collect a form from your newsagent, you are duty bound to register with your Local Education Authority for a work permit.

Check out the pdf employment guide for parents on the right hand side of the page. It's informative.

    Hope this helps.

My daughter had to be 13 and prove she was the correct age to be taken on for a roundd, we also had to apply for an employment licence which allows her to work a maximum of two ours per night and she can work no later than 7 pm, if her round isn't finished it has to be done the following day. (her round consists of 240 papers once a week delivering the free local paper)
