I want to buy a derelict house that is not for sale. Advice needed please

There is a derelict house near me, that is basically going to rack and ruin. It is in a superb location, with good size gardens etc, but the house looks like it needs serious work, possibly knocking down.

Has anyone gone through this process before, of finding out who owns the property, and then making an offer, getting it surveyed, and how to progress etc?

Any advice much appreciated!

    Try the Land Registry online. It'll cost you £2 to find out who owns it. Try that and approach the owners. The worst they can do is say no. Get a builder to have a look at it. If you're planning to knock it down, there's no point instructing a full building survey.

    Sadly, it now costs...£3... to get titles online - if available;-)

    I heard you can apply for planning permission on land you don't own. in case you had plans. :D
