Wow! Look at all the newcomers :j:j.It is lovely how busy this thread has become-welcome all.It is not a competition, everyone should do what they can,and be pleased with it.I have been decluttering on and off for about 4 years. This latest decluttering spree started October 2016,after moving back into our house after an exension. The house looks good now,but I know there are lots of "hidden messes"-boxes away in cupboards, the loft,etc.....And with a hoarding partner, and 4 children,it is a continual journey.
Today was a very productive decluttering day.Actually, not alot of items left the house, but I did organise most of my kitchen cupboards:
main pantry (very tall, almost floor to ceiling),cereals cupboard, snacks cupboard,pull-out larder, plastics and occasional use storage cupboard, drinkk bottles and more plastics cupboard, baking utensils cupboard, casserole dish and other ceramics cupboard, baking ingredients drawer, small appliances/hearbs and spices drawer.Phew!:eek:I am really pleased with results-love seeing everything so organised.I have a few more cupboards to work on tomorrow.
As a result of this job,out of the house today was:

    298:balsamic vinegar
    299:white wine vinegar
    300:golden syrup
    301:strawberry sauce
All of these items had only dregs in the bottom of the container (and I can't remember the last time I used balsamic or white wine vinegar),so all washed out and put out for recycling.
I don't normally count everyday recycling like this in this challenge, but because these items had been hanging around for sooooooo long,I consider it decluttering.

    More recycling:
302-303:2 old plastic take-away containers with lids
    304:springform cake tin-missing base ,so "side" recycled
305-307:3 containers that had contained sprinkles etc for baking
308:box that kitchen scales came in

309:novelty bag of hot chocolate powder, bought at last year's school fair by 8yo,but now she doesn't want to use
310:assortment of condiment sachets-sugar decanted into sugar canister, salt given to 11yo for making slime icon_rolleyes.gif,assorted sauces and pepper binned.I really don't know why partner collects them.
    311:instant hot chocolate cups
312-313:2 tins (shortbread/chocolates),given to partner to use in mancave

I only set aside a few items to donate-will list them when they leave the house.

  • I am inspired,MrsSD. DH has a collection of cardboard boxes from our move stacked in the garage and they will be my next challenge. Today
    66-78 more books to CS
79-89 a start on the magazine pile
90 -95 old parcel jiffy bags.
I like to reuse so I took the bubblewrap out and will use it to wrap
    96 pottery vase
97glass dish both for CS. Now feeling very virtuous as the paper from the bags is now in compost bin.
At the moment DH wants to buy another bookcase but I reckon we just need to shift some books. He is a keen internet buyer and keeps them all, whereas I like detective fiction and take them back.
    See you all soon.

I have found this thread so motivating that I am now very encouraged to have the biggest de-clutter ever ~ Thank you.

Had another sort out yesterday and the following items are going.

1 white (not so white now) top to clothing bank
1 double bed sheet so bobbly its gone in the bin I'm afraid
4 empty cotton reels plastic recycling
5 broken bits of jewellery recycled to friend
    3 boxes flattened recycling bin
10 flattened cereal boxes kept for posting items on eBay now recycled
1 really pretty champagne holder tin container to neighbour
27 items of make up from SIL chuck out to neighbour or CS
1 necklace to neighbour or CS
7 pairs of earrings from SIL to neighbour or CS
1 broken watch from SIL binned
5 new tubes cream from SIL to neighbour or CS
1 double sachet of tinted moisturiser to neighbour
1 new tin of hair shine spray from SIL to neighbour
1 new face tanning cream from SIL to neighbour or CS
2 new bottles of foundation from SIL chuck out to neighbour
1 working Micro Pedi foot thingy from SIL to neighbour
2 Micro Pedi foot thingys from SIL not working binned

The majority of the items I am rehoming are from my SIL who is dreadful when it comes to spending money because she never buys just one of anything, seriously. In the end she gets so cluttered up that she throws over half of it out so it comes to me for redistributing. A lot of it goes to my local hospice charity shop and some I sort out for my lovely neighbour because she always thinks of me when she has a clothes de-clutter and I have some really nice jeans and tops that she has given me in the past. So we are both happy :)

So that's 73 items for me this time.

    Stellata.
    this has made me think.

While I still have a functioning VHS player (touch wood it still works now I've mentioned it ).
I too have a few tapes lurking in the cupboard.

I have googled and at Pinterest it seems there are numerous inventive ways to reuse them - some are a little strange.

I.e. Boxes for crafting or knitting - thie knitting one however seems to be causing concern as to is it ok to knit with the tape, especially as you have to handle it a lot and when made the manufacturer’s didn’t think they would be knitted with.

    I like these.
