Redundant with live in flat -advise PLEASE

I have been made redundant from my job, which also included a flat. The company has offered to pay me for a couple of months, but want me out of the accommodation ASAP. This is terrible as I now have no home and no job. Can anyone advise me where I stand legally? Can I stay until I receive final payment? Can they force me out tomorrow? I have been employed over two years.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated in this time of crisis!

Ellymae, so sorry to hear you've been put in this situation. Shelter give free advice on housing issues:

    http://england.shelter.org.uk/get_advice/how_we_can_help/_free_national_helpline

"Shelter provides a free, national telephone advice line staffed by trained housing advisers. We have helped thousands of people, from finding them a place to sleep to suggesting how to handle mortgage arrears.
    Ring 0808 800 4444, 8am-8pm seven days a week.
Calls are free from UK landlines.
We will answer your call as quickly as we can and treat it confidentially. The helpline gets very busy at times, but please keep trying. Calls are recorded for training purposes.
    Our advisers can:
    • give you immediate, practical assistance
    • explain your rights
    • offer advice and guidance
    • suggest specialist or local support services to help you longer term."
It might help to have your job contract and/or your tenancy agreement with you when you phone them so they can give you specific advice.

    Good luck.

If the flat was considered as a part of your remuneration then it should stay available to you for the length of notice to which you are entitled.
  • Ellymae so sorry about this...I am in a bit of a similar situation...myself and my fiance live in a flat where i work and they are taking staff off site now as apparently it isnt sustainable to leave the heating on a weekends anymore (its on a college campus) even though they need to leave it on anyway as its a very old building...

...nice to know were valued eh?! not sustainable?! nice! anyway just wanted to say I feel for you very much, we have found somewhere else to go, however it is going to cost us much more money to rent privately as the rent here was subsidised and also the bills were all in.

What does your tenancy agreement say? Can I ask what type of job it is and accomodation?

Were you paying any rent or anytihng at all or was it all included/deducted from your wages?

Chin up it will get better eventually :)
  • Surely you have rights under a tenancy agreement - do you have an assured shorthold tenancy agreement or similar?
