  • You can say it's dip dyed that's in these days right?:rotfl: I'm joking sure it looks fine.

Sounds like your doing really well. I know what you mean about the loans it's so annoying thinking what you could do with that money. I just keep thinking buy the time my debt is paid off I'll be that good with money I'll be sensible with all the extra cash I have. It's stressful thinking about it every day too and I keep kicking myself and getting annoyed but the daily reminders is the only way I'll turn it around. Onwards and upwards. Have a good day. Xx

  • Aww thank you hannah. Hope the heat isn't too bad for you. I did have a good day, Although its another 5 till pay day. Old habits definately die hard, I feel like spending today but had sausages and oven chips for tea which is on plan. And no spending earlier. The freezer looks a lot more organised now. Planning nsd tommorow, small food shop at the weekend. On wednesday its payday and then its only one more payday till loan goes under £2000 mark. I am going to get there. if i can spend about the same next month on groceries then i will be happy and reduce the socialising even happier. Need a quiet august and a quiet september, a few trips to lidl and a few nights in. Will get there. xxx

  • Hannah, just reading your post again. I read it quickly on the way to work and again over dinner. I think sitting down with myself every day to remind myself I have very little money and lots of payments to make is very helpful.its so easy to go off track or just give up, it truly helps to focus on this every day. I think if I stop thinking about it I will start spending and forget what my goals are. I need to remind myself every day what's going on and what im doing. Friday tomorrow. xxx

  • An NSD today. Minimal spending tommorow. 4 days to payday. Had spaghetti bol for tea. Had massive urge to spend today, holidays, flights, kitchen gadgets, furniture, clothes perfume, make up, home things- I just want to buy it all. and quite fancy a drink too but I've been studying and dont want to upset the delicate learning balance.

Everyone I know is going on holiday and its all anyone's talking about. So upsetting, you would think that people might just realise a single person household can only afford so much but they just don't get it. Part of me thinks that's my fault for spending on my credit card and never denying myself anything until now- I must have given off the air of no money worries because I never worried till now.

Studying is boring and slow. Up to end of season 2 homeland. That youngest child has grown loads, not remotely realistic. Eaten too much chocolate today have had massive appetite but at least I haven't spent any money! Need to make a plan of action for next week because I am always weak on payday and I need to plan for strength.

    Hey PSL.
You are doing great - yes you felt like spend spend spend, but you haven't = mind set change.
I get the holiday thing (and says quietly I am away next week too - but its going to stay on DH grandad's farm, in a mouldy caravan, with no washing facilities except for a stream!)

What can you do to create the feeling of a holiday without costing the earth - or perhaps even going anywhere particularly far? Is there stuff you could do for free / local that you've always said I should do, but never have?

We've not even budgeted for the holiday - last time ever I want to do that - it's so rubbish. I want to start saving for a "proper" holiday and even if it takes 2 years to do it, then it feels like the right thing to do. Yes I need to pay the debts back, but we also need to reward ourselves and keep ourselves sane.

Have you ever heard of working holidays? a cheap option, but loads of fun. I used to be a volunteer holiday leader and loved it. Really nice way to meet people. Great laugh too. http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/working-holidays.

    Hugs ramble x

Thank you so much Ramble, that is definitely something to think about. I think booking holidays is just a force of habit, If I can make some inroads into the debt bt next year which I should I might look at going away then. Depends on how well I do I suppose.
Its not going well so far but I am out of the overdraft which was the top priority. Although bank has £1.32 till Wednesday. Next the credit card not at 0%. On payday this temporarily goes down to £1500, at the moment I need to put my train ticket on here and pay off on payday, this is short term and I will change to pay from bank account at christmas which means the balance could well be reduced.
I bought some toiletries today £12, stationary £3 and spent £4 in smiths on a Christmas present (will put with something else). Inspired by Dolly Rocker to pick up suitable inexpensive things when I see them. Feel quite pleased at being so organised!
Not going out tonight but need to do small food shop tomorrow. Going to make do today. Going to lidl with a list. Now for today is flat cleaning and full on study.

  • Have you for a dream holiday you've wanted to always go on? How about once your debt free some of the extra cash can go towards saving for your dream holiday. A long way off I know but something to keep focused on and look forward to. X

PSL going off on another tangent have you given any thought about project 333

  • Tori Thank you for posting the link. I can't tell you how much I think that would help me. I will do that and have a clear out too.
It can feel quite oppressive to have too many clothes and I think I have entered this point.

Hannah i think I was one if those people that was born to holiday. I have 5 places on my list. Bali, thailand, vegas, ibiza, singapore. May do ibiza next year depending on dept repayments which does mean going on holiday whilst still in debt but I may do this and have a sensible budget.

Since I was 18 I have been to quite a few places in black and white its a bit scary. Paris, barcelona, malaga, algarve, bruges, prague, poland, riga, Estonia, russia, new york, washington, rome, venice, milan and lakes, gran Canarias, copenhagen, bucharest, madeira, budapest, morroco, dublin, belfast, Amsterdam, cyprus, Austria and edinburgh.
Would like to do a lot more once I have sorted out all the debt.

I feel like I've learnt some good things recently. In no particular order.
    1. Shopping in lidl is ok
    2. I spent less on food than I realised
    3. Need to go out less
    4. People on the internet who never met you can be more supportive than your real life friends.
    5. Putting money away for hair cuts the 2months before is a good idea
    6. Planning is good
    7. Be prepared to be pressured when declining invites
    8. I don't need to keep buying books/towels/dvds/
    9. Taking lunch to work is good, lunches out are expensive and wasteful
    10. I don't need to shop in Sainsbury's
    11. Never ever get another loan.
    12. Noddle does credit score for free
    13. It is stressful to be in overdraft and i need to avoid this situation for the rest of my life.
    14. I need to hold my ground and not give in to social pressure

I've been to lidl today. £12 then going to iceland as well. Then 2 days till payday. Got a meal plan for this week and meeting a friend on friday. Then I've asked everyone to be left alone for study for exams in September but of course they wont listen.
This is a long hard slog right now. One day at a time. Ordinarily as its sunny i would be going for cocktails today and then would be all unorganised and have to buy lunch tomorrow or go out with a friend. Well No More ACtually! Good luck to all, hopefully we can all make progress together. xxx

" 4. People on the internet who never met you can be more supportive than your real life friends."

Very true - and thank you for your support too. The journey is shorter if you travel with friends :D

Hope you are feeling proud of how much you have achieved so far. xx
