Waitrose own brand espresso beans are superb, and almost half the price of Illy. Not cheap, but good value.

For Mocha, would it be cheaper to simply mix cocoa powder with coffee?

Can't stand instant myself, it's all rank, don't care how freeze dried premium and gold it sez it is, it's a processed powder you add water to.

I don't drink much coffee so the organic Arabica medium roast Swedish brand stuff I get lasts quite a long time. But coffee beans/ground coffee don't have to be expensive if you bulk buy on offer and stash in the freezer.

Rombouts is pretty much mellow and the Rombouts Original Fairtrade box is on offer at Morrisons for £2 at the moment.
  • I buy ground coffee from Lidl when it is on offer at half-price (usually at weekends only).
The Columbian instant coffee from Lidl is very nice.:)

Lidl Columbian is the only instant coffee I drink, it has 100% Arabica beans and a par above Nescafe, Douwe Egberts and the rest.

I bought Aldi's gold roast refil bag at £1.99 for 200g. There is their standard coffee refill for 40p less.

I drank both of these at my parents and taste good

I recommend Sainsbury's Rich Roast - it's around £3 for a big jar. More expensive than Aldi and Lidl but I personally find it much nicer. Aldi's tastes a bit like Weetabix to me. (It wouldn't necessarily be a problem if I liked Weetabix!)

Aldi Specially Selected Columbian instant coffee is great in my opinion. £1.89, we go through a jar a week here easily. DO NOT buy whatever their coffee is in the gold jar with the gold lid. I actually returned it and informed them it was undrinkable! :D

Make a pot of coffee to your taste. Then add either chocolate powder (or chocolate syrup if you're feeling extravagant) to the finished cup; again, to taste. It's a case of trial and error - if my experience is typical, your first one will probably be horrible!

I can provide more detailed instructions if you like!
