im not comfortable putting my finances in there hands

That's an interesting way of looking at it, considering they're effectively putting their money in your wallet! But of course, it's entirely your prerogative to go elsewhere to borrow money from a company that does meet your standards....

What support do you have for your assertion that "One lender influences another, being associated with a progressive credit/builder company can have a like for like influence and put other lenders of dealing with me"? Do you believe that mortgage (or other) lenders will look unfavourably on everyone who has a Ryanair charge card (and all the other brands listed in an earlier post) simply because of the company owning/managing the debt?
  • Lenders cannot see Who actually owns your credit accounts on a credit check so the company is irrelevant, they can see the type of product for example payday loan, Credit card, Mail order account, but they will not be up to see the lenders name.

Im not paranoid, Im just very careful about my credit accounts and like to choose the right lenders to work with.

One lender influences another, being associated with a progressive credit/builder company can have a like for like influence and put other lenders of dealing with me.

im afraid i may need to walk away from having anything to do with New Day! A company which I have never heard off or no nothing about therefore im not comfortable putting my finances in there hands.

Maybe others will follow in my footsteps! I am a new property investor building up a port folio and want to take every step with care

Why would they ? Do you really think Santander would sell their cards business to a dodgy company ?

As Eskbanker says, it's hardly a huge risk !
  • I have just looked at the NewDay site, and it says:

'We provide credit and store cards for these retail partners: Debenhams, House of Fraser, Laura Ashley, Topshop, Topman, Burton, Wallis, Miss Selfridge, Evans, Dorothy Perkins, Outfit, Harvey Nichols amongst others. Our consumer brands include the aqua, marbles and Opus branded range of credit cards.'

Companies seem to be able to sell on/transfer credit card business to others, and I suppose that these companies would not want to be associated with 'dud' companies controlling their store cards.

I have not heard of them before, either, but they are regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, apparently.

If the service is not up to scratch, then I will end the store card.
  • Got a letter today dated 27/02/14 which actually refers to "the Shareholder storecard account" and "This may be an account that you opened with Shareholder some time ago, and you may not have used it recently."

From the account number I can see it is a card which was opened when I had shares in Debenhams, and it offers a discount on purchases there. As long as this continues, it does persuade me to take business there which would otherwise go elsewhere. I too tried to find out about "NewDay" which I associate with the down-market end of the credit market.

Having had considerable problems with RBS Credit Card services when the balance in my RBS Current and Deposit Accounts were worth more than RBS (Shares there too) I place little or no faith in the so-called credit rating industry, so the effect of this is difficult to assess.

Luckily I am still worth more than RBS (not very hard) so I will hang on to see if the discount is still offered.

Had a letter about this today always thought the £2 balance I had on my credit file was for a closed BHS credit card account. But I phoned the number in the letter had been waiting several minutes and the man said ring back in half an hour because of some technical bull. I said I had already been waiting got annoyed put the phone down. So I decided to have a check to see if the account was still open so I went through the automated system. It said I owed £2 I was scratching my head. So I looked for an old BHS credit card statement phoned them up and they said the letter is about the BHS storecard not credit card I was confused what BHS storecard?
I soon realised that I used to work at BHS and before the credit card they had a staff discount gold card part of a store card, which I can clearly remember paying off why would I risk my credit rating on not paying £2. A bit worried I phoned BHS and they said yes they used to have a goldcard which was once part of a store card but did not know about Newday. I looked up the number on the letter on Google but found the number bit fuzzy if it was real or not. I decided to phone Santander from a number of its site. The lady on the phone knew what it was straight away she said its nothing to worry about she said to phone the number on the letter to close the account during office opening hours. I thought to myself that I am busy at work all week I won't be able to do that. So I tried to go through the automated system again, but when I went to pay the balance to close the account it said they have technical debit card problems I can't pay. So now I have to go through all the rigmarole tomorrow trying to explain to a foreigner that I need to close my account and where £2 comes from.
What I want to know all this time that I thought it was BHS credit card not a sotre card that every month on my credit rating green for paid actually effecting my credit rating in a bad way?

I'm paying off credit from a Comet store card from about 2010!
I haven't been getting statements for ages and have never been told my remaining balance, ever!

I did recently get that email about a refund of all the credit charged on my repayments which totalled £80 which was credited to my remaining balance.

The store card is long gone so I do not know the number.

All the details I have are...
    Credit Agreement number
    Loan account number

Whenever I tried to call I get forwarded to an automated service which asks for my card number.

How can get I get my outstanding balance! And who to complain to for the fact I have never had a statement.

    Thanks

*Update. Manage to finally get through to the correct department and it transpires they own me money and the account is closed and cheque is in the post. Very happy.
  • Dear all

I got the ubiquitous cryptic Santander letter today about an account with Dixons/Currys Storecard. I hadn't used the card in 15 years and had assumed it was deleted when the account was cleared. ( I can't even remember when and for what is was used and a trawl of my bank account for the last 15 years did not turn up any payments to it!).

I had had no intimation about my account being transferred to Santander at any time in the past.

So I phoned up the magic number in the letter. One hour and 45 minutes later I had been played the whole musical repertoire and had heard the dulcet tones assuring me that "all our associates are busy". At 15p+ per minute ( I am not on a BT number and was informed on the first phone call that I was being locked into a pay for any future call from this line because of an interception by a premium pay service), so I was getting really irate. I was beginning to suspect that Santander was milking me for any money they could through the published number!

There is no e-mail address. The snail mail address on the letter does not identify the precise location if the about-to-be defunct branch of Santander. I do not want the account. But
I do not want a default to be delivered to Experion or any other agency for an account I did not know I still had! I just want to cancel it without having to pay through the nose for the privilege to do so.

I do not seem to be the only person to be sideswiped by this Santander mailing. Any advice would be much appreciated?

  • I received this letter too regarding my DFS 0% interest loan that's nearly paid off. I had to replace a broken washing machine a couple months ago so did a 0% interest loan through Currys. It went to some company called Creations Ltd. I just tried to make a payment via my debit card on their website to see they'll charge me £3 for debit card and 4% of total amount with credit card. I also saw on my accounts page, my DFS Loan. Now this is supposed to be with Sandander and now NewDay Ltd but Creations Ltd have it on their website under my details. It also says I have nothing outstanding but shows my next payment being Dec 2011. I'm not happy about this at all so from now on, if I don't have the cash, I do my laundry by hand and hope these dodgy companies go out of business.

A website exists but doesn't say much at the moment.

I doubt if you will have any say in the transfer, you'll either have to accept it or close the account.
