Choccy's list looks pretty comprehensive to me. If he wants some support from people in a similar situation, I heard the other day about another single dad who was pointed towards homedad.org and a yahoo group called nct single parents (sorry can't remember how to do links)

Hi I'm 7 months pregnant and joined the boots parenting club ages ago I have received my first offers this week.

The following isn't a freebie site but there is loads of information about doing things for free or cheaply as a parent. I found all the info on local toddler groups v useful as I was new to my area when I gave birth so didn't have a clue where anything was. Quality of information will depend on your area.
