    Hi

£63 saved this month - can't believe I have managed to do that in December for goodness sake :j

I had thought I was nearly finished buying for Christmas but I was wrong  However, I'm having a wonderful time spending my 2016 Xmas savings pot and not feeling the slightest bit guilty :p I'm still being very MSE/DFW though and I'm holding back £250 of the money to spend on bits and pieces in the January sale (towards Xmas 2017). I can't thank Ellie and my fellow Xmas savers for the motivation and support to have saved this separate pot of money

£ shop do some quite nice ones, or £ world if you have one of those, or just make a pot sealed with sellotape, a coffee jar, or a ice cream tub, or even a pringle tube, I have used a bottle before that just about fits coins in, and take a good shake to get out.

Not very MSE but you could also get a terrimundi pot and reuse it each year.

    Lots of options.

Thanks for your reply :) My daughter has a terrimundi pot that she hasn't used but I assumed you had to break it to get the money out?

    You can either

1.use a knife and slide the coins down the knife, or
    2. you can bash a hole in the bottom slowly slowly, then cover with sellotape.

I have done option 2 on both my pots, I used to do option 1 but its quite time consuming.

you have to go carefully if you wish to bash a hole in the bottom as it can crack the pot, I started by lightly tapping with the bottom of a spoon, then when is started to crumble in, I then worked my way round to make the hole just big enough for the £2 coins to come out.

I bought these ones to replace one I was given for my 21st birthday but decided when I was 31 to change it, I did on that occasion smash the pot, then added the money into the new ones.

There are ways to get the coins out, and I like the look of the terrimundi pots.

  • Hi everyone

Saved first £56, but today I'm going to put £60 in my tin so that's £116 so far. I still have last year's money, I was going to use it but I'm still just looking at it!!!! Xmas is mostly done, just veggies and a few bits to go. It was going to be a quiet one for me but that has all changed as dd2 and family have decided to come and stay, they live abroad and its all been very last minute-cheap flights, so it will be more work for me but very enjoyable.

    That is forward planning!!!

Just dont do what I do, and put them somewhere really safe and then cant find them next year, and you end up buying more.

This happens with me and wrapping paper, always get too much, as they normally 3 for 2 or something like that so end up with rolls of wrapping paper, that still have some left so I would put them somewhere safe and then cant find them again next christmas, or you like some new design, so buy that, so you end up with about six rolls of paper...

I do use the sales to pick up presents as I go, just need t remember where I stash them, I may just have to get an amazon box and put everything in there, for Christmas 2017, a present box, like the ones my mum had in her wardrobe for those presents for the surprise party you used to get invited too, and not know what to buy, so you used to look through the present box to see what was in there,

Now as i'm older I realise this box was full of presents that were bought for sisters/parents that were recycled lol...

I know for one my sister does this, I have been with her at my nieces party and she had two piles of presents, the ones to keep and the ones to sell online for funds to save for Disneyland Paris....

Someone normally buys new children's clothes and items New In Box,

anyway I regress, have a happy Christmas Kim_13

    You too.

No danger of losing them; I did this with birthday cards and found them all when I had a clear out. Then I bought one of those under bed storage boxes and now put all cards in there. My present stock is sat in a handbag so I will need to find somewhere more permanent to put them.

Haven't yet found any wrapping paper in the sale, but next on my list if any nice ones are around.
