Damp Neighbour

Our cottage abuts an old stone built barn, which is currently being used as a garage / workshop.
Due to the poor repair to the barn, the roof is caving in, our end bedroom is getting very damp.
Do I have any legal recourse to get the owner to repair or make good the barn?

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Those barns look at least a hundred years old, maybe more, similar to my old property. I'm surprised building regs signed off your conversion if the walls between properties aren't good enough. I'm sure someone more learned will come along but I'm not sure how much liability your neighbour has since yours is a dwelling and his isn't.

Maybe a better approach would be to ask for permission to assess and potentially repair any issues yourself.

Just to add, do you have home legal cover? If so, give them a call and ask for advice. Obviously don't go to neighbour with all guns blazing but forewarned is forearmed.

Thanks Mate. The conversion was done a long time before I bought it, so I'm not sure what was signed off there. (The barns were built in 1870.)

I'm not in the UK art present, so my letting agents are dealing with it, any ideas on rights and responsibilities or legal aspects will give me the opportunity to keep them on their toes.
