Hope all goes well tomorrow, Muppet.

Well done, Nuttybabe for reaching your target. I'll be trying to do the same soon, have never been overweight before and don't know where to start. Have 2 stones to lose. :-(

    Anyway, 5 for today!

    1) Big son was off school as he felt sick and was deathly pale. I can't remember when I last had a day with just him (little son has had 2 days off school in 4 years so was fine today!)

    2) As I couldn't go out/do much with big son in bed, I took the opportunity to clean all the windows. I hadn't realised how dirty the ones on the road side were. Also cleaned the bathroom and had a general tidy up and swept up half a tonne of leaves from the path, weeded a bit etc.

    3) Started Christmas shopping on line. I've got my sons' presents. Airfix model for both of them (not expensive), Top Gear books for each, Mecanno to share and Scalextric to spare. Can you guess which children are obsessed with James May's series on toys?? Also got my sister what she asked for - a road atlas.

    4) Nice to see little son on his return at 6pm.

    5) Watching I'm a Celebrity.

Bit of a busy day tomorrow. Big son (if well again) is going to a Sikh Gurdwara then has a skiing lesson after school. I'm working at school all day but leaving early for a doctor's appointment :-(

Hope everyone is having a good evening.

    Hello! I love Mondays!
    1. Selling two books through our local Flogit site for £3 each, which the buyer collected and paid for within hours.
    2. Going into a charity shop and buying a barely worn pair of wide black suede court shoes for £3. (So effectively exchanging one of my books for a pair of shoes - nice.)
    3. Exchanging DS1's school tracksuit jacket and getting £2 back because it was a cheaper size!
    4. Using every last scrap of yesterday's chicken leftovers in 'chicken fricasEA', just like Mum used to make. (Apart from DH who doesn't eat white sauce so he had his in the last of yesterday's gravy - very OS!)
    5. Fair success in my efforts not to eat between meals ... now VERY hungry but feeling slightly virtuous.
  • :jHaven't been on here for a long time, but hello everyone

    1) Walked to the collage and back saving about 4 pounds in bus fares.
    2) Had a haircut at the collage that cost a mere 4 pounds (and a very good job they did too)
    3) Called in on a friend that I would normally have called and sent money on the telephone.
    4) borrowed a book off said friend that I was thinking of buying.
    5) Also borrowed clippers from said friend so that I can give the boys a haircut, saving about 15 pounds for both of them.

I know I sound like an old scrounge, but I always take things back on the day that I say I will in the same or better condition, so no one seems to mind, I am making a pea soup tonight so when I take the clippers back to her tomorrow I will have a portion for her as well, as she lives alone I know that cooking this just for herself is not going to happen.

  • Hello everyone (and a special thank you to Olllie for looking out for everyone and making them so welcome), here are mine for the day-
1.Going to the library to collect my new Scarpetta book which was ready for me and finding out it was BRAND NEW, £19 in the shops, nothing from the library!!
2.My son has been poorly with swine flu (but that tamiflu is absolutely brilliant) so we watched Casino Royale together, tomorrow it's Quantum of solace.
3.Finding a large happy chicken and fruit tea cakes reduced in the co-op, that was lunch and tea sorted for £2.40 with loads of chicken left.
4.Singing Christmas songs at choir practise, years since I've done that.
5.Just remembered, asked if there was a new Lynda Laplante book out and ordering it from the library, that'll be pefect for the Christmas hols.

    Sleep well all, Ali x.

Hiya to new people and returners :hello:
I shall think of you tomorrow Muppet and keep fingers and toes crossed for the results. Halleous, very glad you and your baby are fine. Hugs to Caterina (and thanks for the idea of cooking your own rice to have with takeaway. Why had I never thought of mixing home-cooked with takeaway before on those days when a takeaway seems like the only solution?)

Nuttybabe, that's an amazing achievement -well done you.

    My five pleasures for Monday:

    1. Realising that my initial feeling of devastation after reading an article in our local newspaper could be the turning point I need to get something finished that I've been working on for years. Very pleased with myself for seeing a positive angle on it all so quickly.

    2. Getting a new £9 phone (for free) in the mobile shop because my old one died last night, and DS2, who was with me, teasing me about my ineptitude with technology which made me laugh.

    3. Spending the afternoon with home ed friends.

    4. DS1 taking charge of rustling up a very simple, tasty pasta supper before we had to go out again.

    5. The thought of reading for a bit in bed with duvet and jamas and cardigan and fleece throw and socks and hottie :D (I feel cold tonight.)

    Warm thoughts to everyone.

Ev'ning all  - today started off ok but has gradually deteriorated during the afternoon. At the moment it's dry outside, but I know it's the lull before the storm. Overnight forecast is diabolical - Fred (the lovely Granada weatherman who used to have on the weathermap on This Morning) said to expect to be woken up by the noise of the rain and strong winds around 2.00am . I feel so sorry for all those folks in Cumbria/Cockermouth and anywhere else that's been hit with floods.

:hello: to all our new posters

Rummer - ty for the comment - it was a bit like a xmas dinner practice run lol . Slight veggie overload ;).
redsquirrel - busy afternoon gardening :) and that's how we like our Pea and Ham Soup too - can cut it with a knife when it's cold ;).
Muppet81 - Bye-bye Jedward - at last the great British Public have seen sense :j. Hope all went with the biopsy ((((HUGS))))
yummyhoney - that must have been an interesting conversation about strikes ;). Maybe your ds2 will begin to settle shortly when the nursery start doing xmassy stuff during December - that usually gets them all excited about going. Chips and egg (runny I hope?).
Halleous - glad to hear that your baby is fine - first time pregnancies are so s-c-a-r-e-y  - ((((HUGS)))) for you, your OH and your baby :).
Caterina - ((((HUGS)))) for you - sorry to hear you'd had a lousy day - don't blame you for ordering a takeaway - sometimes 'needs must' ;).
SunnyGirl - mmmm loving your ideas for 'that tray cake' - putting them all into 'My Recipes' on the comp ;). I used to have a delicous 'American Frosting' recipe that involved boiling water, sugar and egg whites - will have to check it out - always went well with walnuts pushed into it and not as greasy as buttercream. You've just reminded me of the organic whoopsied choccie bar that I bought in Asda on Saturday - now where did I hide it ?
Kittikins - well done on your efforts to 'make money' - something that I should be doing really as I could do with upping my income a bit.
ampersand - have you checked the fruit bowl for your cheque book ;)? Love your desription of Mrs Wifey with the wind in her tailfeathers . Good to hear that the dad of the 'young customer' felt strongly enough to make him return what he had 'pinched' AND apologise :T.
Haribo - well done to your twins on bringing home the cookies from brownies - my sisters would have eaten them on the way home ;).
nuttybabe - wtg on reaching your target weight :j and wd to your ds on his reading/speaking skills to get the task of Narrator :T.
livewithinmameans - wtg on your cooking skills - some great ideas there . Sounds as though you cookies are much in demand ;).
Primrose - great news about the Direct Debit reduction :T - better in your pocket than theirs.
ACEY - hope your ds1 is feeling better tomorrow - sounds like your boys have a really good time with school and activities .
scotrae - wtg on turning an unwanted book into a pair of black suede court shoes ;) and wd on and exchange turning into a partial refund as well :T.
415SanFran - what a brilliant mse day you've had! I'm sure your friend will really appreciate the home made soup .
alisong - thanks for your comment :o - good to hear that your ds is on the road to recovery now. I love getting a brand new book from the Library - makes you feel so proud of our Library system.
Broomstick - Hope your turning point works out for you :). wd on your new mobile phone and wtg to your ds on being in charge of the evening meal - little Jamie Oliver in the making perhaps ;)?

    Mine for today:

    1. Three books that I ordered from Amazon arrived this morning - from the Inspector Frost series - 1p each plus postage ;).

    2. Managed to help one of my tenants by getting him a replacement whirly-gig washing-line from somebody who doesn't use theirs - his was stolen from the drying area - earned myself some Brownie points with him ;).

    3. Used some of yesterdays chicken and stuffing for sandwiches for lunch today.

    4. This afternoon's meeting was cancelled :j - but re-arranged for Wednesday afternoon :(.

    5. Fry-up of left-over veggies, potatoes, stuffing, some chicken scrappy bits and gravy for evening meal tonight - OH is still licking his lips . Still got 2 chicken breasts for tomorrow's meal. May turn one into a chicken pie for the freezer and use the other with oven chips and peas for tea.

    6. Emmerdale and Corrie on TV this evening .

    7. Think I'm coming down with a throaty cold thing - not a blessing BUT good excuse for a hot toddy at bedtime - hic !

Ok then, I'm off to make my toddy, squirt my throat and get into bed with a book. Nitey nite all - take care and HSarmhugs_9780.gifall round - love Ollie xxx

    no, tisn't.
When i think, it would have been in that scrupulous list. Never mind.
BUT, in interim, a Book Sold notice has popped up from Amazon:D.
[Interrupt me again, ollie - let's hope you're on a roll]
Now, that's a pleasure with which to start this rather new day. I see your green light's still on, so here's sending you the sweet dream you need to dispatch any Bertie germs[was anyone on this side of world brought up/schooled with that Bad and Naughty Bertie Germ?]
