    Hi

    Can someone please help me with this, want to make cake with plain flour as no S/R left.

    receipe was 6oz S/R
    1 teaspoon baking powder, which I have. can some help with amount to use for plain flour.

    if its a sponge, then i tend to use 3tsp per 8oz of plain flour

    I've seen this before but can't find the thread, sorry.

    How much baking powder in how much plain flour makes it the same as self raising flour? I've run out of SR and the label on the tub of BP is torn, I had a guess yesterday. It was a bad guess!

    To make self-raising flour, add 1tsp of baking power to 200g / 8oz plain flour
    One day I might be more organised...........:confused:

    According to my tub of baking powder:

    "Generally, to use plain flour as a replacement for self raising flour, add 4 level tsps of Baking Powder to each 8oz flou" More specifically, it goes on to advise "1tsp to 8oz for rich fruit cakes, batters, biscuits & pastry" and "3tsp to 8oz. for sponge cakes, suet & steamed puddings".

    I use it all the time for all-in-one cake mixture at 4tsp per 8oz flour - I seem to get better results than with self-raising flour.

    I seem to recall that my grandmother used to add baking powder to plain flour when she didn't have any Self Raising flour.

    I have plenty of plain, but need SR - can someone please tell me how much I need to add to make it SR? (There's no label on my baking powder jar, so no help there!).

    I harvested the following from this forum a while ago, not tried it myself so dont know if it's correct:

    For each 1/2pound 227g of plain flour use level teaspoons as:-
    scones, bread 4
    fruit cake 3
    sponge 3
    steamed pud 3
    shortcrust pastry 1
    August grocery challenge: £50
    Spent so far: £37.40 :A
