Hello
I'm new and excited!
I was just wondering.. i've been trawling the boards alot and there seems to be alot of couples working together to be DF....having just been put back onto the market not by choice I was wondering if there are any other singletons out there going through this alone? and how you are getting on? I guess it worries me that the couples have each other to lean - on can being a single DFW be really lonely?

Hello I am a singleton, in fact the ex is one of the reasons I had so many debts, silly me had everything in my name as I was the higher earner. Not a mistake I will make again
It is a hard slug but I told my mum and she was my rock when I needed one. I am now only 3 months away of being debt free, nearly 2 years early.
Wanting to start fresh has made me be so determined in my journey and the icing on the cake, I have just met someone nice after being alone all thise time during my DFW journey
Just come here for supportLBM 11/2009 Total Debts 11/2009 £44624 with DFD 2015
Debt Free Date: 14/11/2012 :j:j:j0 -
Hi loopylou (welcome!!) and takingcontrol -
I am a singleton, and like takingcontrol, I also have my ex to blame - he was a sponge for money. I earned it all - and he spent it all (and considerably more!)
Since he left, and ive started to sort the mess out - I have never felt more in control in my life. Today I made the final payment to clear my first credit card, and Im on cloud nine!
Maybe we should have a singletons against debt thread and support each other in the absence of a partner! :jTotal Debt: was £8,400 / now £0
Debt free date - 31st January 2013!!!
Swagbucks earnings £50/£600
2013 SAVINGS - £605 / £12,0000 -
I think we are just starting one!!! :rotfl:
I had a bit of debt before I met him but he kinda helped me bump it up!
I'm so glad I'm not alone - Takingcontrol I am going to have a look and see if you have a diary - to pay it all off 2 years early is amazing!!CC1...[STRIKE]£5,491.00[/STRIKE]£5,223.98....Loan 1..[STRIKE]£3,891.00[/STRIKE]£3670.84...CC2...£[STRIKE]415.00[/STRIKE] £395Mgment Co: [STRIKE]£1,398.00[/STRIKE]£1082.00[STRIKE]£11,195.00[/STRIKE] £10,371.79DEC NSD:2/15.....£2 Saver = £0....Swagbucks 796/1999S.A.D - and proud of it!!.... I'm a singleton too, and while it can be a bit lonely at times, particularly when you have to turn down invitations when you can't afford a night out, or reciprocate a dinner invite, the best bit is that you are entirely in control of your own money and destiny!
Yes, there are lots of threads of people doing it together, but there are a fair few that start with 'My OH just doesn't get it' from people who are fighting the debts while dealing with someone who goes out and blows money on dumb stuff, or decides to have a full English breakfast with the sausages for the casserole for four and the the bacon and mushrooms intended for a family pasta bake, screwing up the food budget!
Your life, your money, your happiness is all in your own hands! That is a pretty good feeling to hold onto to in the lonely moments.
Best of luck xSome days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

I started a diary but never really used it I am afraid. The best tip I can give is set yourself mini targets, document every penny you spend and review at the end of the month and see where you could make even more savings. Sell anything you dont need and really only buy things you do.
Good luck on your journeys, you an both do it :TLBM 11/2009 Total Debts 11/2009 £44624 with DFD 2015

I am a very happy singleton, who will be DF (hopefully !) on Dec 2nd this year after 7years on a DMP and repaying £22k (see my sig for details).(And I was the only person responsible for getting myself into debt).
If I can do it so can you !
**********************************Important Update ************************************************************
My DFD has now been postponed till 2/06/13 as Payplan (rightly) have decided to pay off the interest that HBOS have charged me as part of my DMP, extending my DMP by 6 months.
I agree and am happy with their decision as afterall a further 6 months on a DMP that has lasted 7 years isnt that long !0 -
Hi another singleton here too, I am happy being on my own, I am lucky in that the kids both of which are adults now, still living at home, know my money situation, I was a fool and took on too much, but over the last 5 years (after divorcing their dad!)I have learned so much about how to manage money and don't feel I need anyone to tell me how to spend or save any more. It is so liberating to be doing it alone and I will conquer this last bit all by myself, in spite of being told I would never manage.
I am joining you on the journey, it will be another 5 or so years for me, but I am determined to get rid of it and never be in debt again.Been here for a long time and don't often post0
