What are the components that the starter contains?
Do starters fail over time?
Homebase had none at all in stock. Had to order from Amazon. Almost too cheap to order by post.

I have osteoarthritis in my hands so I speak my messages into a microphone using Dragon. Some people make "typos" but I often make "speakos".

There's not much to them but they do wear out.0

Any new fluorescents fittings I have bought recently have not had replaceable starters.
I am going over to led tubes. managed to pick up 5 and 6 foot Philips led tubes on ebay for £10 a shot.
Fluorescent battens are not hard to convert over to take led tubes and they can use allot less power.0 -
Yes they do wear out, they generally recommend replacing them at the same time as you replace the tube.0

Electronic starters are a lot more reliable than switch starters.
That being said when the fitting eventually fails go for a high frequency fitting - they don't have the iron core ballasts or need a starter and are far better.
LED tubes as well are also the mutts nutsYou may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
Thank you all for the helpful advice. Electronic starters now purchased and my mother's lights in her senior living accommodation are working much much better.I have osteoarthritis in my hands so I speak my messages into a microphone using Dragon.
