if it's left an oily stain, rub washing up liquid into it before washing it. Washing up liquid is designed to remove oil and grease, and works a treat. (although obviously if it is an expensive silk tie you'll just have to take it to the dry cleaners)

Can anyone tell me the best way to get oil off a pair of jeans. I don't know how it got there but there's just a penny sized oil mark on the back of a pair of my jeans. Ive put them through the wash but its there just the same. Im worried if I rub away with anything that I'll have a white patch there instead!

Washing up liquid. Before you wash the jeans rub washing up liquid well into the material before you wash them as normal.

It is better done before you wash them as washing may set the stain, but it is worth a try.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

Hubby is/was a mechanic & I totally agree - best done before washing or while still damp if you miss it !
I usually scrub it in neat with a nail brush the wash as normal - can take more than one go to get it all some times (or if you cause a 'clean patch' where you only notice the big black stain not the general grubbiness of mechanic's wear!lol)
ps- Sump oil is a whole other story!
I THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I Know
