council tax refund for strike?

Options
Does anyone know or has heard if you can claim a refund for the day that the council's were recently on strike please? Technically we pay council tax to be provided with a service however on this day the council did not provide a service, therefore should we apply for refunds?

I am not aware of any council where all services ceased.

    What services didn't you get?

Council Tax doesn't pay for a particular service - it's pays for the council who then provide services out of this money.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

We had no school transport and no school dinners. That was the only way I was affected as my child goes to school in a different county.

Will give it a go and see what they say. Worst case is they say no and I won't be any worse off.

If we assume that the Council tax is £1000 per year - £2.79 per day then what percentage of the council tax is spent on school transport and school meals? That will be your refund IF it was possible to claim it.

I would think a maximum of 10p and that is assuming that the above 2 services consume 3.5% of the council budget

why not volunteer with a local charity, then your time will be spent doing something useful instead of wasting your and the council staff time on such nonsense.

If not then all the other taxpayers will be worse off because you have diverted the council from doing what it should be doing.

Most people would count looking like a small minded petty fool as being worse off.........but fair enough.

I rather thought it was the LEA that paid for school dinners and transport rather than the Council Tax.

If by LEA you mean Local Education Authority, then part of your CT payment goes towards their funding.

And to OP don't waste your or the council's time. You will not get any refund.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
