Electoral roll

I have registered as an army voter and I'm registered on the electoral roll but as it is not at my place of residence this is having an adverse effect on my credit score and rating. I am reluctant to register at my home address simply because I'm based in Northern Ireland but originally from Scotland and wish to remain registered to vote in Scotland. Is there anything I can do to get stop this effecting my credit score in such a detrimental way as it is stopping me receiving the best rate of credit. I have raised the issue with Equifax and they have done nothing and been very unhelpful and seem to have no understanding on what to do. I find this odd as although I'm not registered at the address I live at I am still on the electoral roll.

  • Have you any example of where you were charged a higher interest rate because of a low credit score?

Credit reference agencies exist by creating the fear of poor credit histories - every lender has their own criteria WHICH THE CREDIT AGENGIES DO NOT KNOW! I'm a forces mortgage adviser and half my clients aren't even on the electoral roll and it's never been a problem.

  • Credit scores are complex and could be debated for hours. The electoral roll has helped me get cheaper credit.
After years of living at a BFPO address, being unable to register properly on the electoral roll and dealing with loans of 21% APR, i registered at a mates house in the UK and the offered APR halved overnight.
I do not live there but the financial institutions think I do.
Check your credit report from the 3 main companies and make sure that everything is registered at the same address. 1 typo in the address on a finance agreement could be enough to destabilise your credit score.

Hi Bigthor33, welcome to the forum.

The CRAs create credit scores which only you see, they do not share it with lenders as they have their own scoring system for lending.

Make sure you check all 3 CRAs for any errors in the data they hold (not the score).

You don't say if you are paying a monthly subscription to Equifax, I hope not as you can get that report free through Clearscore.com, you can also check Call Credit through Noddle free which only leaves your Experian report to get.

See what data is on all of them, including formatting of address, make sure there are no late payments etc incorrectly recorded.
