As you can see it’s a slip road coming off the motorway. If you click all the way down the road, you will see three speed limit signs, 2@ 50 m.ph and then one at 30.mph towards where the houses are. What would have been really helpful is to have had another sign stating ‘REDUCE SPEED NOW-RESIDENTIAL AREA APPROACHING ‘ .

Really? Have you ever seen such a sign? The ones wth 30 in a red circle seem to do the trick for most people.

Anyway, what did you expect to find coming off a motorway? The chances of continuing at 70 must be slim.

EDITED TO ADD: it's not even a motorway. Maybe your limited powers of observation explain a lot.

The OP just needs to pay the fine, but 70mph to 30mph would require some braking, if people actually drove to the speed limit, that would be poor design.
Surely 70mph to 40mph is more common.

Did you look at the Google maps link? There are TWO 50mph signs well before the 30mph sign. Plenty of time to be getting down to the correct, legal speed as signed.

    4. There's a set of repeaters half way too. Even more notice.

Getting down to 50 from 70 wasn't the OP's problem, though...

True, but post #65 is thinking OP had to go from 70 to 30, and that is what I was replying to. :)

Oh, indeed. I mean, he only had 400m+ between the 50 and 30 signs. About 20sec at 50mph.
  • Ok, so I've paid the fine and paid the increased premium to my insurer...suffice to say I will now be extremely conscious of my motoring now.

On my licence reads the following :

    SP30
    Penalty points: 6
    Offence date: 4 Apr 2017
    Hide information
    Offence dates
    Offence date: 4 Apr 2017
    Expiry date: 4 Apr 2020
    Removal date: 4 Apr 2021
    Offence details
SP30: Exceeding statutory speed limit on a public road
    Penalty points: 6
    Fine: £354.00
    Court/Fixed penalty office
2575: South East London Magistrates’ Court

Can someone explains why it takes a year between the expiry of the offence and the removal of the offence from my licence ?

Here's to 4 years of increased insurance premiums....:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
