Do I have an accident to declare?

Options
Hello all

My car insurance is due for renewal soon.
I found the following out recently:
  • I hired a van for my ex-partner when we were together and paid for the necessary insurance through the rental company (Budget).
  • During the hire period she had a bump with the van that she didn't tell me about (this was disappointing news to learn, but not surprising - there are many reasons why the ex is an ex!).
  • The van hire insurance is covering the costs.
  • I have only learned this some time after the event, and after we split up.

My question is -
When I renew my car insurance with my usual insurance provider what do I need to declare if anything? I wasn't involved in the accident but it was obviously covered by the insurance that I took out.

Will I need to get the details of the incident from Budget's van hire insurance?

Any advice on the insurance would be very welcome

Many thanks
D

If the ex is not on your policy then you don't mention it. If the ex is a named driver then the incident is mentioned when you are asked if the named drivers have been involved in an incident.

No claim has been made on your car insurance policy.

My own fairly unoriginal view of such a scenario is "when in doubt, disclose".

That way there's no chance of being caught with your pants down at a later date.
