  • Good Evening :hello:

    Well, it would appear that the set of blocks that i bought in the chazza were something of a pig in a poke :( Rather than the set 'as advertised' on the front of the bag, they are in fact a mish-mash of oddments from several sets :( I was getting excited at one point, as the one set is a 'specialist' one, and some of the salient pieces are there..... however, I discovered that the manufacturers have also made sure that 'specialist' sets are just everso slightly different so that the 2 cannot be combined easily :( B.U.M. :(

    I've learnt something though. Look before you buy - make sure that you're buying what you know you're buying :(

    We have half tackled a chore that brings neither of us joy, tonight. It involves 'family' so I won't elaborate, but it's half done and it won't take long to finish off, so that'll be out of the way and out of our minds.

    The pizza for tea worked well. I had pulled one too many mozarellas out of the freezer for last Sunday's teas and had popped it into the fridge, thinking that I would use it. However, it was still there today, so cautiously applying the 'sniff' test, I couldn't detect any trace that it was 'orf' (not that mozarella smells of alot.....). Therefore, pizza tonight was 2 cheese (mozza & cheddar) with basil, paprika flakes and oregano sprinkled over, served with HG (not by me) 'Wilja Wedges'. Frugal, used up stuff and tasted spiffing :D If I'm not here tomorrow - tell 'em it was the mozarella wot dun it! :cool: Picture here;

    Today I am grateful for these 3 things;

    clothes at affordable prices for Baby Greying
    :D - especially when we can be 'green' about it too :D

    warm clothing for both of us that meant we could safely venture out
    :D

    for our beloved 'K' and all they did for us, when we needed them the most
    - wishing them all good things for the future x

    Thanks for reading, popping in and supporting me. Appreciated. Greatly.

    Pizza and wedges look delicious.
    I was gifted several boxes of frozen basil, coriander, chili and parsley yesterday. One of my friends was shopping late in Aldee the other night and they were sorting dates in the freezer and she went to buy one and they said they were going to be destroyed and did she want them, so she got loads and distributed them to several friends. I know that our local place gives lots of food to shelters so was a bit surprised but presumably there's a reason.
    I am thinking they will come in handy for soups, pizza and curry - I tried the basil and chili last night and they weren't particularly strong but tasty. Not sure I'd buy them but free was nice. I have added a couple of extra tins and packets of cereal to my foodbank donation as balance.

  • Hiya :) it's me, little_sweetie, creeping back in for a warm and a bit of company ! It's been a bit parky here in the Black Country over the last few days but no lasting snow, thankfully. I have had a few back pages to read and blimey! Bear's photo's certainly gave me a warm glow :D It's not good for me at my age either :naughty: and the exploding beans :rotfl: :rotfl: Oh my goodness I feel better now!

    It's lovely to see you are still perky and posting photos of 'us tea' Greying . As usual, I'm salivating over the pizza pics. In my absence (you might all be amazed to hear) I've actually made focaccia :D and it was EDIBLE :D Wonders will never cease! I now want to try making pizza dough though I need to read up on how to do it first. Do you still prove yours twice GP? I could be some time.....

    Hope you are all well at Greying Towers, I see that at least one of you is 'boingy' anyway! My 'boing' seems to have disappeared right now :( We are busy preparing for an enforced month away from home so I am clearing, tidying, de-cluttering, eating down the cupboard and fridge/freezer whilst trying to stay frugal and squirrel away a bit of cash in order to eat out a few times next month. There are only so many beans/cheese on toast or jacket spuds that a girl can eat. I do not intend to spend a whole month glued to the cooker in the caravan :cool: (thought) Maybe DD will invite us for tea??

  • Good Morning :hello:

    joeyjimbles - well done on the frozen herb bounty - and BRAVO! for upping your FB contribution in recognition :T

    little_sweetie - if you have made foccacia, then pizza dough will present NO problems for you :D:T I do sometimes let the pizza dough rise twice, but tend not to be so fussed about it IYSWIM. We are definitely having thinner pizzas these days - although that is as much about using 300g of bread flour as previously using 500g. I found that you 'almost' get as much pizza for significantly less raw ingredients.

    We had curry last night. I was rather pleased with myself, as I finally - after weeks of threatening to - used up the last of the frozen mushy peas that I had got on 2 for £1 from h3ron :T they are not a product that I will bother with again, but I was insistent that I would use, not chuck. Anyway, I made the 'Wait Wotchers' mushy pea curry (got the recipe on here - grocery challenge???? - yonks ago, and it tastes alot better than it sounds), and we also had the left over (frozen) sweet potato jalfrezi that had been our Christmas Day curry. Served with basmati. I didn't take a pic, as whilst mushy pea curry tastes fine, it looks........... and I really, really didn't want to put y'all orf your tea! :rotfl: Still, 2 items decluttered out of the freezer. We were fed - and quite frankly, stuffed! and it didn't cost additional cash to make :j

    I've already had a sort through the freezer this morning - go me! and reviewed what is in there. I have to confess an over abundance of mozarella, paneer and puff pastry......... what the hick am I gunna do with that lot............... :think:

    Someone has posted the mrAl S6 from the 19/1 on the food/groceries board - if it is right (no reason to believe otherwise, just mrAl don't normally make it known this early.....) then it'll be some celery and beetroot (500g) at 35p ea. for me :D

    I will be doing my menu-plan for the week ahead this morning. I've so little grocery money left, it is, quite frankly, a joke - I should be drummed outta MSE! The lack is partly due to subbing the 'non-grocery' budget - and I'm making a note of how much each time, but in the short term, it is leaving me.... um short! So, hatches need to be battened down! I will need to buy some fresh and frozen veg, so that we don't keel over with scurvy - and how I am missing the 19p veg bag wars of chrimbo! :(

    We have got plenty of stuff in stores, it is just that it needs other stuff to make it into meals. But still, not beyond my capabilities, surely?

    Right, DH has finally got outta bed (in fairness, he did get up the same time as me - but snuck back to bed with BG without telling me, the toad! :D) So action stations!

  • Thank you GP, that is indeed good news. My Focaccia did seem much bigger than I would use for a pizza base (I like mine a bit thinner too) so I'll try the 300g flour instead. Way hay! I'm learning to make bread at last :j It's only taken me 45 years of marriage to do it :o Ta muchly!

  • Good Evening :hello:

    little_sweetie - how big are the windows on the van, and do they open? Could you not set up a (im)mobile pizza joint and coin it in during your enforced time away from home? :D

    Well today has been pretty spiffing. I have spent all of 79p on a box of cornflour and a bag of carrots - go me! mrs exciting life!! :rotfl: (ooops, had to put some gaps in there - the filter would have gone into overdrive!

    The charity shop accepted the bag of bricks back - for which I'm grateful. Truth to tell, they'll probably get the 1.50 back off me, one way or another, but I'm not lumbered with a useless (to me - someone else will find it just the job) set of bricks cluttering up the house. Plus good grace goes along way in my book, so bravo them!

    We've had us tea, as DH has to go 'oot' to a 'thing' :( We had baked tatties, ys'd coleslaw, leftover pizza & beans. no picture - this isn't a 'leftovers pawn' instant grammatic 'feeds' yer know! :rotfl:

    I have made a crumble using several of the eating apples (russet) and the last of the frozen 'fruits of the forest' from h3ron foods - £1.49 for 300g. I've had a 'test'....... 'tis lush :D Will make some custard to go with it when DH is back.

    Baby Greying snoozed for 20 minutes in the day today - I got so much done! I felt like a decluttering Queen! :rotfl: That's the trouble though isn't it, I only did 'what I could' rather than what needs doing, so I'm constantly falling behind with getting the house anything like ship-shape.

    Today I am grateful for these 3 things;

    good grace

    good weather - lovely walk around and about today :D

    good grub - especially when I'm clearing out the fridge/freezer as I go :j

    ta for popping in. Reading. Telling me all about your culinary adventures, and for being all-round good eggs.

    'Tis appreciated.

    Doing "what you can" is absolutely fine! And if you keep on doing what you can, when you can, then at some stage you will reach the point where you'll suddenly step back and realise that actually, you HAVE made an impact! :T
