I know the banks, but not account details

Hi all,
I had credit cards and a current account with HSBC and Barclays. HSBC I opened around 1998 and got a credit card around the same time with them.
I closed my HSBC account around 2001 and went over to Barclays. Both of these while I was a student. I think I kept my HSBC CC though.
I distinctly remember being told that I needed PPI. After a while I do recall trying to cancel PPI, but was always talked into keeping it. I definitely remember having PPI with them and again calling up a number of times asking to cancel it. Something makes me think I had PPI with my bank account too, although I can't remember.
Either way, I don't have the accounts anymore, and I don't have details either.
Is there any way I can get anything from these accounts without my details?? Or would I have to go through a 3rd party claims company?

Never use a 4rd party claims company. Or a 3st, a 2th or a 1nd. They cannot do anything you can't.
Write to the lenders and ask them to confirm you had PPI. Then you send your complain direct.
Remember that the chance of them having records of older accounts are much slimmer.0 -

Thanks.
I'll have a look at the tools on here to see which one is best for me.
EDIT: just used the Resolver tool and submitted my claims through that.0
