Thinking about oil/filter change on 2002 saxo.

Oil is 5/w 40 or 10/w 40

I haven't done an oil change on any vehicle for years but thought about doing this myself.

Is it still loose tighten then a quarter turn on the filter?

Does anyone buy the premium oil?

I see filters for £2.34 on ebay. Can they be suitable?

I personally see little point in saving a few pounds on oil by buying cheaper oil.

EuroCarParts stock oil at sensible cost.

Halfords are only a good idea if they have a special offer on.

Shell, Mobil, Havoline or Petronas would be my choice before Triple Q or similar.

If you have a Costco card then you have a choice of Mobil, Castrol and Chevron, though Chevron is 20lt only. But Castrol is in 4litres which is handy as I think the smaller Citroens have a sump smaller than 4litres.

Yes, Saxos about 3.5 litres sump.
  • As BigJL, get some reasonable quality oil, if ECP don't have an offer going there's a chap on ebay sells Trident, which is Millers trade brand and very good stuff, for good prices, around £22 for 5 litres full synthetic last time i looked incl del.

As for oil filters, i'd be inclined to avoid the no name tat and either stump up for a genuine, but if you can find a Mann & Hummel or Mahle filter (often local motor factors NOT accessory shops) you've bought OE quality, the cheap stuff may not have a non return valve worth its name built in, the good brands will.
