Hello i am posting on behalf of my grandparents. They have received a letter from a DCA called Capquest. The letter states they owe over £3,000 to a bank from 2000. They have no idea what this debt is about. My question is the debt being 17 years old!!! do they legally have to worry about this? They are almost certain they never had loan, credit card or anything from the bank stated on the letter. Any advice would be appreciated.

May be useful link -> Hybrid letter stating that you have no knowledge of the debt AND that it would be statute barred regardless.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Whatever they do they must not ignore letters from Capquest, as then Capquest may obtain a CCJ by default should they choose to do so.
It’s only statute barred once you have informed them it is, and they cannot prove otherwise.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
