Hi all

I called 2 Citroen dealers near me to find out about aircon regas and clean. 1 said it needs a new type gas and said £180, other said it needs old type gas and said £89. I am now confused.

I cannot find anything in the service book to say which gas it takes. it just says it needs doing every 2 years.

If you guys know where I can find the right info for my car. Its a 2014 C4. Or if you guys know where to look in the hand/service book.

Any help is appreciated.

    Chances are it will need the newer gas which is v expensive. However 2 year replacement is a nice earner for the dealer.

    Use the aircon all the time and it should give years of service.

    If you open the bonnet there will be a label fixed to the slam panel that tells you the capacity of the system, in grams, and the type of gas.

    The one you want to see is r-134a. This is the cheap gas that ATS/Kwikfit can replenish on their £30 offers

    The one the eco warriors want is HFO-1234yf this is the expensive one.

    If the car was type approved later than 2011, it will be the expensive one.
    I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

    (except air quality and Medical Science ;))

    thanks for the info, how would I find out when the car was type approved?

    Why not just look under the bonnet as suggested?

    My bad, I supplied too much information. The expensive refrigerant has to be used on new vehicles for environmental reasons.
    The acquirement started with new designs/models from 2011. Hence the type approval (so they didn't have to convert any unsold cars, only design it into new models)

    Basically, if it has tyre pressure monitoring it will have the newer gas, as TPMS was mandatory for all new models from 2012.


    Just look for the label as I said.
