Ok then, next things to try ..

Right click your network icon in the system tray, open network and sharing.
Choose "change advanced sharing options" on the left and then in the right panel, turn everything on

If that doesnt fix it, go into device manager, uninstall your network card reboot pc and let W10 reinstall the drivers.
Then, when done, back in device manager, right click the network card and choose "update drivers"

    See how you go

Next will be resetting the tcp/ip stack but i cant see it being this

Edit : Maybe change the "allow windows to manage homegroup connections" to off instead of on

Yes, and this is the problem, when I turn it on and save, it goes back to off.

At present that is on. I'll give that a go first (see if I can turn off / enable 'Use User Accounts....'

    Soooo, no joy.

I disabled the Allow Windows to manage connections' - No joy.

I uninstalled the network adaptor, re-booted, updated - No joy.

(I am running out of hair to pull).

I'm certain that the issue lies within my main W10 PC, other laptops in the house have no problems accessing the shares (most on W10 also).

Having said that.... I have just checked one of the laptops and it also has the 'Network Discovery' service turned off, and is able to happily access one of the shares.

So, I'm not sure I need to resolve the 'Network Discovery' turned off now :wall:

Perhaps, as you indicated previously it may be related to my user, i.e. the other laptops are accessing the share under the guest rules whereas my connection is (likely) utilising / passing my credentials. I'll investigate this aspect further.

Control panel => User accounts => Manage your credentials

Look under "web credentials" - remove the offending one

    No joy :(

I've removed the a web credential for my user.

I deleted and re-created the user in the NAS

    Tried to re-map....no joy.

Unfortunately I cannot 'browse' to the NAS share as 'Network Discovery' is turned off :wall:

    I get:

    Windows cannot access \\192.168.0.101\media
Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise there might be a problem with your network <<yada yada>>

    EDIT: Error code 0x80070035

and if you run to \\192.168.0.101 , (without the \media) do you see a list of shares atall ?

When i say "run to" i mean type that in the search bar at bottom left of screen and press enter

And, as a test, replace the ip address with the address of another machine on your network, does it give a blank explorer window, or do you get the error ?

Also, if you open internet explorer, and type http://192.168.0.101 and press enter
Do you get the web interface ?

Another thought , A recent update might have disable SMBv1 .. or V2
So, open an elevated command prompt and type the following to re-enable it ..

    sc.exe config lanmanworkstation depend= bowser/mrxsmb10/mrxsmb20/nsi
    sc.exe config mrxsmb10 start= auto

    sc.exe config lanmanworkstation depend= bowser/mrxsmb10/mrxsmb20/nsi
    sc.exe config mrxsmb20 start= auto

    Then reboot

note : SmbV1 is the attack vector for spreading the most recent malware through your network, so ideally you dont really want legacy kit that relies on this

Sorry, was a little unclear what you meant by this? (Windows / Search???)

Same error. I can ping the m/c.

Prompts me to log in. Logged in using my re-created (NAS) user details (same as PC) and shares displayed ok.
