Severe Disability Allowance

Options
Hi

I currently receive severe disability allowance as part of my income support payment. I have been reading that this is going to be abolished but can't find any information about it.

Does this mean that I will be £60+ a week worse off or is it being replaced by anything else?

If anyone has any information or a link to somewhere that explains it full I would appreciate it.

SDA is one of the benefits being replaced by ESA, I'm surprised you haven't been moved over yet.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

I believe the OP means the Severe Disability Premium which is added to their Income support claim.

The Severe Disability premium will no longer exist under Universal Credit.

However, there is a transitional protection period so that you would not be worse off until your UC payment is the same as you are on now.

    Have a read of this:

    https://www.disabilityrightsuk.org/universal-credit-uc

Eventually IS will be replaced by UC but not for some time (years) so try not to worry.

Just looked at the article and looks like we will actually be better off under universal credit. However it seems from the article that it will probably be years before we are switched over.

It has put my mind at rest.

    Thanks once again
