maternity rights etc query

A friend of mine works as a waitress. I am not sure how many hours she does a week but i think about 25 although she used to do more i think 30 until earlier this year when her hours were cut. She works from 10 - 3 i think 5 days a week. Currently she is pregnant and i have observed she is not being treated very well and have concerns about this. Her employer has known for a couple of months she is pregnant (shes about 18 weeks i think). She has never gotten a proper lunch (or any other) break during her 5 hours, always had to grab something in and amongst the shift and it is very physical work. This is proving hard now she is pregnant. She needs a proper break. Also, she is not attending her appointments in work time as i know she should be. When she mentions she has an appointment, her hours just are cut to accommodate it which means she loses out financially. She is a bit concerned about raising this with her employer because although she has worked at the venue for a couple of years, she has never been given an official contract. Can you tell me what she should do and how the number of hours she works may affect this (incase i got them wrong). Sorry if i have posted in wrong place as unsure.

    If your friend is concerned about raising these issues with her employer and fears dismissal she should contact her nearest CAB for further advice. The r-hand side of the Adviceguide homepage has a heading 'Get Advice' - put in the postcode and this will give details of the nearest CAB.
