SSE - 27.2% price jump

Just got a letter from SSE. I am an electricity only user.

They say my Current price of 14.04p per kWh is to change to 17.0p. This is an increase of 21%. WOW!

But wait, my last bill of February 2017 was only 13.37 per kWh. So my real increase is 27.2%.

Incredible.

Your last bill was showing the unit price. The 14.04p is your unit price plus VAT.
  • Thanks Hengus for the clarification. Even so +21% is still a huge hike in SSE's charges.

Existing one year fix unit rate 10.268p
Currently available new one year fix unit rate 13.478p

    Both including VAT.

So 31% increase is same for everybody.

The shock should be the 17p

Dont forget that rates for the same tariff differ across the country depending where you live in, so it's not always easy to compare unless you live in the same region.

With the forthcoming governmental meddling introducing price caps and possibly more to come they have got to make the money up somewhere. Did people actually believe that the loss would be sucked up by the suppliers, making hay while the sun shines comes to mind.

Moneysupermarket.com allow you to choose existing tariff,
which is Online Fixed Price Energy June 2017.

It also shows Online Fix & Save April 2018, currently available from Scottish Power.
