Penelope penguin your blanket is absolutely beautiful its just what i would like to do, the colours are lovely and had a look at the links that you posted and i think even i might be able to follow it xx
Popped into tesco earlier and they didn't have the crochet magazine in but were hoping to get it in by the weekend so for 99p im definitley getting the first one. going in town at the weekend so i think a trip to john lewis may be in order. I know there expensive but all the ladies that work there are so knowledgeable and all the wool is lovely xxMarch 2014 Grocery challenge £250.000 -
I picked up the mag today, it seems OK for beginners it has a little guide on the basics and obviously the pattern to make a square.
The cushion covers look fairly straight forward to make and i'm sure you can adapt those to make squares for a blanket as well.
Need to sit down now and learn how to do it properly!

Hi all, just been having a nosy at this thread, normally lurk on the card making - I really fancy having a go at crocheting after reading Attic 24's blog - was going to ask my mum in law to teach me - but will have a look out for that new magazine first and see if I can teach myself!0

*stupid question*
does everyone just use normal DK wool? I was just browsing for a crochet hook and noticed crochet yarn too, is there much difference?
ETA:: Just been looking on youtube and think I'l be making some of these snakes, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zYq3-GG1C84&feature=channelSave £6k in 2013 member 168 £1187/60000 -
that new mag seems like a good idea for
anyone wanting to start crochet,99p
for hook,wool,DVD instructions etc,
I would say its its a bit of a bargain.
Just buy the first one as buying
all 120 editions would not be very
cost effective:j:j:j0 -
I think most people probably use DK
worth looking in charity shops for
wool bargains, especially if you are making
multi coloured items they get lots of
odd balls of wool donated, like wise in
shops that sell wool worth checking out
any reductions they have on end of lines etc
Just cannot say enough here if this is a labour
of love and you have or are likely to make
something that you want to put to regular use,
keep an eye to the quality of the wool you use,
some are more delicate than others in the wash.
Can reccomend Sirdar wash & wear, once made up
you can machine wash it and tumble dry it to within
an inch of its life and it will never lose its shape, size
or colour. One of my faves to knit with.:j:j:j0 -
I tried to buy the magazine today to no avail. I've tried all the websites and tutorials but still not "clicked" Has any one else noticed that all the tutorial sites are american, I'm getting a bit worried about getting muddled with that and UK terms?!! Oh and by the way,
Happy New Year  and happy learning how to hook!!0 -
I tried getting this in tesco today , but they dont have it .
Is WHSMITH open today ?Kindness costs nothing0 -
I managed to teach myself last year by using this book from Amazon:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Crochet-Unravelled-Clear-Concise-Learning/dp/0954829603/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1262350773&sr=8-1
It was really easy to understand with lots of pics.0
