I'd go for it too under those circumstances, you only live once.

Thank you both, that's kind of where I am with it now too.

    Also - big news...

My mum might have found a bungalow!! We're not 100% sure she can afford the full fees and bond and first month's rent, but she'll only be £50 or £60 off it if she doesn't have quite enough which I'd be happy to scrape together -not to get rid of her you understand, but I haven't seen her this animated about getting somewhere before, so I'd hate for her to lose the opportunity. :j

Good news re your mum's bungalow :) Bad news about the cat :( I'm with the others about going for it with the flooring, get it over and done with.

  • Sorry to hear about the cat. Great news for your mum, fingers crossed she gets it. Agree with the others that if you are really keen on the flooring and have a plan that it won't derail your repayments then go for it especially if you don't have to worry about getting someone in to install it.

    Thanks guys!!

Also - realised my hosting will earn me £130 extra this month, so we're storming ahead with the laminate flooring :)

Also painted the spare room today with a tin of paint I've had since September 2015 so that cost me nowt and feels like I'm still cracking on with getting the house how I want it. Having the rabbits indoors over winter knackered the carpet in the spare room as well - but I HATED that carpet so I'm perfectly happy with my decision to replace it with carpet tiles. I just need to find a nice single bed on Gumtree now and my hosting room will be perfect :)

Went to see one of the houses Mum's seen today too - this one was too big, too rural, too expensive to run (oil heating and we found a damp patch) but it was worth seeing the kind of thing she DOESN'T want... she's going to see the lovely bungalow by herself tomorrow as I'm going out with a cousin. It's not going to be ready until end of March for her to move, which would work out better financially too.

Hope everyone else is having a productive weekend too!

Sounds like a good day. The painting must feel good.

    Do you know??....

As soon as I feel like things are going well then my phone falls out of my back pocket into a running bath

So, I've had to claim an upgrade from EE, so my phone bill will now be £25 for the next 2 years. Still better than the nearly £40 I was paying initially but still. I feel so stupid, but I know these things will happen!!

I've ordered my laminate flooring anyway so that's sorted, and I'm determined not to give up just because I've had a bit of a setback.

    In other news

this is totally not MSE related, but I have nowhere else to moan about this so I'll do it here:

My boyfriend has decided, for the 2nd weekend in a row, not to come and see me. Last weekend he had a nasty cold so I let him off because I didn't want him to have to drive for 2 hours feeling like that, but this weekend he's much better - just, apparently not 'better' enough. I'm really hurt by this because I have never cancelled on going to his. We've been together nearly 3 years and it still feels like he considers coming to see me a chore. I've brought this up in the past and even suggested we go back to just being friends so he doesn't have to feel beholden to my feelings anymore, but he insists he doesn't want that... and yet doesn't seem to worry about the fact I make a lot more effort than he does to maintain our relationship.

I'm sure this feeling will pass, but it means I've ended up with nothing to do all weekend because he (his words) 'doesn't fancy' driving to see me. It would save me £80 a month if I suddenly 'didn't fancy' paying for trains to visit him, so I can't help feeling hard done by. Humph.
