Virus from Hell. Please Help

Not sure if related, but first noticed problems with YahooMail.

Very slow, but more the fact that when trying to delete Emails, it dosn't delete as normal. Emails do not go away but show in Trash Folder as moved. When going to Trash Folder they then delete from Inbox !!!

Now even worse, not sure if related. Whenever I click on anything a new website opens with rubbish (Bingo/Casino/etc etc).

I cannot now use anything without this happening. It has taken me a good half hour to get to this stage.

Another regular now is a pop up dialog box saying call 08008021145 to disable popups.

I have run Malwarebytes and And AVG and am now at Wits end.

Any help much appreciated.

I am using Windows 7.

Any suggestions on other checks I should do ?

How about downloading Yahoomail again (any suggestions on what site to use?) or

Download Windows 10 (free) to see if corrects everything, wasn't planning on downloading it but if it helps I will do.

From Googling the scammers phone #, sounds like you have Clearvirus.net which is adware rather than a virus.

Can you roll-back Windows 7 to recent Restore Point using System protection in Control Panel?

Otherwise Google for advice on how to remove Clearvirus.net
  • run this , it will remove a lot of junk , free version works well http://www.superantispyware.com/
  • Wipe the hard drive and reinstall. It might be a pain, but it's the only way to be properly sure that you have got rid of such junk and might be quicker.

I estimate that it would take me at least a week to reinstall and recustomise all the software I have installed on Windows 7. That doesn't include finding all the software DVDs and their product keys.

Your advice would apply only to someone who has done very little to change their PC from how it arrived.

    or someone with a backup

the percentage of pc's that require a week to reconfigure must be infinitesimally small and most of them probably run at a snails pace.

for everyone else, 2 hours max.

    oh, !!!!!!....

    1. run adwcleaner
    2. run jrt
    3. run mbam
    4. reset browsers manually for homepage & search engine

45 mins and job done, no need to completely wipe the drive for that.....

they've already done mbam and avg, if they didn't deal with it, then the others may not also, but they left after asking anyway and had similar problems in the past, so should know the routine.

  • That (bsod) assumes that everyone has more than 10Mb of download speed, some poor souls don't have such a fast(sic) speed. But assuming that a backup is in place all well and good. However as GJ said !!!!!! ....., and to the OP(mhills94) start a backup regime , now I must go back to resuming my backups

there is no assumption about download speed, because it is irrelevant

Tell me then how long does it take to factory restore, and get back upto date a windows 7 PC, say of a 4 year old vintage, and it's relevant software (allowing for 80Mb download speed) ? 2 hours max ...don't think so.

It appears, to me, that what is irrelevant is your infinitesimally small, and helpful sound advice on previous threads which you deem to offer your wisdom.
