Painting newly plastered wall/ceiling

Options
We've just had the ceiling and wall plastered and have been told that we need to seal it with watered down PVA before painting it. Any idea how long we have to wait before we can do this?

thanks

you do not seal with pva.

get some non vinyl matt emulsion, and water it down 30% and apply. This is called a mist coat. Then paint as normal.

I would use dulux trade supermatt (from bnq), and it can be applied even if the plaster is still wet.

There is loads on this subject on here and screwfix, just do a search. Question asked at least twice a week

its a myth that you seal walls with pva, made up by gipsys.

Try and find any paint maufacture who says to pva first, none do. But some idiots have made this up in their minds and some some reason its stuck.

I painted over my new plaster walls directly with the colour I was finishing with, the whole room needed two coats and it hasnt caused any problems at all!

I used emulsion in B & Q especially for plastered walls ... hall, landing and ceiling only needed 1 coat .. leaves a chalky finish ... just havent got round to putting colour on it yet, but worked a treat

the first coat should never cover in one coat. The point of watering down the first coat is that the paint soaks into the plaster, therefore creating a key with the surface.

What can happen is the paint starts peeling off the new plaster........seen it happen too many times, but on the other hand, gives me loads of work sorting it out :)
