Can you work part-time while on DLA?

I've not been working since 2009 and been on DLA since 2010 (mental health).
I would like to return to work at some point but am nowhere near ready to go full time. My Dla is up for renewal and if I am successful I would like to try and look for part time work this year to return to the workplace and get over my sense of isolation.
Currently I'm on ESA and DLA, would I lose either if I worked part time? I'm sure I have heard you can do part time work over and above your benefits.

I can't answer about ESA but DLA is a universal benefit, isn't means tested, many people in receipt of it are in employment, including full time employment. DLA will not be directly affected but, of course, if your care or mobility needs have ceased or lessened, then you would have to notify the relevant department.0

^^^ As above for DLA.
For ESA, "Permitted Work" might well be the ideal solution for you.

Anyone know if I'd lose my ESA?0

For ESA, you have to apply for permitted work first.
There are sharp limits on what you can do, and you cannot assume that what you wish to do will be treated as permitted work.
Make a mistake, and you can end up with your claim ended (not suspended) and have to reapply over again from scratch, as well as having to repay benefit you have already been paid.
Phone up the number on all your ESA letters, and get a 'permitted work' form, if you are contemplating this.0 -
No, I hadn't refreshed the page when posting.0
