Hiya - nice to read your diary. Looking t your soa the savings jumps out at me as well. Unless it's for a specific circumstance or your mortgage has a really low interest rate it's unlikely that you're getting a better rate saving than putting it to your mortgage. Maybe have a play around with the mortgage op calculator to see how much difference this will make. Good luck with the ops!

Hi madcatgirl, thanks for reading! I completely agree with you! As we only have one income at the moment OH thought it best we should have an emergency fund just incase the unthinkable happens. I do see where he's coming from but I'm trying to convince him that maybe we don't need as much as 6 months wages! I will let you know if i manage to get round him! Lol!

Made an overpayment today of £80 so the new mortgage total is £70,200.00. Getting there slowly but surely!
My shopping for the next two weeks has been delivered so the cupboards, fridge and freezer are bulging!
I have also set up my new banking spreadsheet so I can watch what goes out the account like a hawk!

    Have a good evening!

Met a friend this morning for coffee and breakfast but only spent £4.50 so not too bad really and the breakfast was lovely!
I've had £10 come into my bank for completing surveys so that is going into the OP pot ready to make another payment to the mortgage in November.
Not a lot else to report! Trying to have a quiet weekend so we don't spend a lot of money!

    Have a great weekend!

Well, not a had great few days! I've pulled my back and have been in agony with it! Doctors gave me some painkillers but then they wiped me out so I haven't been very productive at all! I was so fed up we fell off the wagon and ordered takeaway for tea last night and then bought a big pizza from the supermarket tonight!:( Hopefully we will get back on the home cooking wagon tomorrow and after looking at my banking spreadsheet this evening we are still on track to make an OP of £300 mid November.
On the plus side I've bought some more Christmas presents and I've requested £10 from one of my survey websites that should go into Paypal in a few days.
Trying not to be too hard on myself for the spending as everyone has a slip up now and again!

    Have a lovely evening!

Don't beat yourself up too much Jess, back pain is truly awful and £300 is still a great OP to make!

    Hope you're feeling better soon.

Thanks themadvix, I feel real sympathy for anyone who has to deal with back problems all the time because it really does mess you up!
I am feeling a bit better today so I've managed to get a couple of little jobs done!
One of my favourite jumpers had bobbles on it so I found a tip online saying to gently run a razor over the jumper to get rid of the bobbles and it does work! I also had a really sticky label on my new toilet from when we had our new bathroom fitted that I couldn't get off but I saw another tip online saying to put the hairdryer on it to heat up the glue and remove the label! Then any residue I was able to remove with a bit of nail polish remover on a cloth! Well chuffed! :T

    Have a great day everyone!

  • Hello. Good luck with your health. I began doing mortgage overpayments in 2013. Some money and more the next time add to reduce mortgage debt. Throughout 2015 I paid the maximum amount of overpayments. I am trying very hard to continue my overpayments. I am saving money to be able to pay off a lump sum on my mortgage though it has a 5% fee. My mortgage is approx £14,900.

Well today our mortgage went under £70,000! The new amount is £69,858.60. I'm really happy it's under £70,000 but now I'm desperate to get it under £60,000!! I seem to be wishing the days away until OH's payday so that I can make the overpayment of £300 I've planned for (well it'll probably be £308.60 now so it goes to a rounder figure!!). I'm staying with my mum and dad this week to help her out while my dad works late shifts so I'm having a few NSDs because she refuses to let me pay for anything! While I'm away OH is on strict orders to eat the food in the house and not order takeaways or he'll be in bother!!

    Enjoy your evening everyone!
