Upgrade Burglar Alarm - Hybrid Option?

I have an existing hardwired home burglar alarm which is functioning, but obsolete.

I am decorating and would like to move the keypad.

Has anyone had any experience of using a semi-wireless system whereby the existing components can be wired into a new control panel and then wireless components added (such as keypads).

This is save messing with re-wiring in order to move the keypad.

Many thanks.

Do you know the model of the existing system?

My Scantronic died so was replaced. We now have all the old wired sensors plus some new wireless ones & a new wireless keypad. I don't think "wireless" had been invented when the old Scantronic was put in.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

I don't think you'll find any wireless add-on modules for the Scantronic systems. You would either need to install a more modern control panel or install a wireless system.

  • Thanks for the advise.

On this basis, I acknowledge the fact that the control panel shall require replacing.

I would still like to use the existing wired sensors. Can any advise if there is such a system available to accept these as wired devices, but use a wireless/remote keypad?

    Many thanks.

You can still use the existing wiring and sensors.

Do you need a keypad to arm and disarm the system? Many modern systems have a keyfob which you attach to your keys.

You can also get alarm systems that are armed/disarmed with a smart phone App.

  • Thanks.

Can you please advise of any particular manufacturers and models?

Will you be installing it yourself?

Have a look at Cooper and Texecom systems.

I bought and fitted a Visonic Powermax Complete, wireless alarm with pet friendly PIR's for about £240 delivered I think, and ordered a couple more sensors too. its great, was pretty easy to programme and install too

Not what you asked, granted. But I am very impressed with it so far
