AEG is actually Electrolux and usually rebadged Lux Group stuff with a fancy shell and a price hike to boot. It isn't German at all.

Are you really, REALLY sure of that?

Not that I like proving people wrong or anything...

Here's a photo of the new AEG steam oven we had installed last week:

At least Next crap doesn't self destruct after 8 weeks' use.

Unlike my lamona oven that went BANG on Boxing day 2010.

After days on hold on their customer care line at premium rate, I was told that it's nothing to do with me, their contract was with the builder and, unless he contacted them with his receipt details, it was tough luck for me.

Of course, the builder was somewhere warm and sunny and his minion wasn't allowed to open the filing cabinet where the invoices were kept.

Lots more phone calls, I had to guess where he bought it (five branches in immediate area), persuade someone from each branch to look for details and release information regarding a business and finally get a little string of numbers and purchase date before they could then send out an engineer.

Engineer decided it needed a new thermostat, bulb holder and heating element without actually looking at the thing.

Sounds OK. Except for the fact that there were no thermostats available on the entire planet, as it was too new to need spares manufacturing. But they didn't say this, they just refused to confirm they were coming back.

After some heated discussions, they said they couldn't replace the thermostat. So told me to take it back to the store I bought it from and they would give me a replacement or credit my business account :wall:

So they delivered a replacement. Well, chucked it outside the front door without warning.

Then had to call them back to get them to install it.

Someone eventually came and installed it. Glanced at the old one, tightened up the bulb holder and suggested I put it on eBay, as there was nothing wrong with it that couldn't have been fixed within one day.

NEVER NEVER NEVER waste your time or money on lamona or the aftercare line. Life's too short.

Some of the crap NEXT buy in for their sale (where the hell they get it from, I have no idea, probably Primark reject shops) doestn even last 8 weeks.
I bought my OH a suit last week, seemed fine but when we got it home and tried it in, OMG, it was the cheapest crappiest suit I have ever seen in me life.

I don't mind being proved wrong at all.

That's the first AEG made in Germany I've seen in a decade. Probably a specialist facility for certain products and steam ovens aren't exactly common so it doesn't surprise me terribly that I've never seen one.

But most of it is Swiss or German made ( if Swedish owned).... Up until last year I would have agreed with that statement but they have taken the brand back to its german roots and producing far better gear that they were. The new AEG stuff is certainly comparable with all but the top end of BSG group product, and are now worth the price hike over the other brands in the group. You are right in saying this has not always been so to be fair.

To my knowledge there is little, if any, Electrolux products made in Sweden even although you are correct, it is a Swedish company as it's hugely expensive to make anything there.

I know of no production they have in Switzerland.

Would say that generally BSG are easier to deal with in the event of a fault occuring though.

    Sort of.

They seem to be going down the Miele road in part now. :(

All AEG ovens (excluding microwaves which are made in Poland and are, to be fair, texactly the same as Electrolux with a different cosmetic) are made in Germany now, as are their refrigeration units.

Induction hobs are made in Germany. Electric and Gas hobs are made in Italy, along with the cooker hoods (soon to be moved back to Germany when their second factory is up and running).

    Hi

Lamona are Howden's own brand of appliances. They will tell you they are as good as Neff Bosch Siemens. They are wrong. Their appliances are pretty much like their kitchens, hyped up by themselves but really they are just cheap builders products.

I had a kitchen supplied by my builder and we looked at the lamona appliances and purchased a dishwasher, double oven and washing machine about 2 years ago and they still work great to this very day. I would recommend them.
  • I have had Howdens kitchen for 6 years, I have the works.. Double oven, Ceramic Hob, Extractor, Intergrated Fridge Freezer, Intergrated Dishwasher, Intergrated Washing Machine. Firstly I'd like to say that all the appliances not only work, they work well! My previous Bosch Dishwasher tripped the electric to my entire downstairs randomly. My Old Hotpoint washing mashine leaked and the door even fell off.. Yes fell off! and my old Beko Fridge sounded like a helicopter. After a little research (my Mum also wanted to buy a Howdens Kitchen, read this forum and thought against) we discovered that although LAMONA isn't a brand you may be unfamiliar with ( Bosch, AEG, SMEG, Seimans all started out unknown) and dispite no advertising they sell over 430,000 appliances of each product each year!! More than any other make. Couple that fact with the very small % off unhappy customers (happy customers rarely speak out ) and you have a great reliable product that looks good, works great and I wouldn't go back to any of the "better" brands. Im my opinion they are by far the "better" brand!:j
