npower changing my sign online tariffs

Joined npower earlier this year on sign online tariff v4. Have just received my latest bill and found out they have kindly put me onto v5 from the start of October. Why have they done this? Are they allowed to do this? Have tried to call them a couple of times today and their time to answer is the usual rubbish standard. Anyone else had this happen?

    I am on v4 tariff:

    Electricity: 20.74p (upto 728kWh) and 8.97p (over 728kWh)
    Gas: 4.478p (upto 4572kWh) and 2.519p (over 4572kWh)

I checked the website and new Sign Online prices are as follows:

    Electricity: 17.85p (upto 728kWh) and 8.07p (over 728kWh)
    Gas: 3.82p (upto 4572kWh) and 2.15p (over 4572kWh)

With the new tariff I would be £150 better off per year but it says this is for new customers only! :-(

You may have seen from another thread that I failed to find the SOLv4 prices today from npower. Its good that it takes a complete stranger to tell me what I am paying for my elec!!!

    Anyhow 20.74p!!!!! - it was 11.77 before - thats quite a rise:mad:

...or it could just be that you don't live in the same region as mbailey. Prices vary quite a bit from area to area.

True. Just checked that site you recommended to me again and I am supposedly on 15.92 and 8.18 which is a lot better than 20 odd pence.

I don't see why living in the South means I should have to pay more for my energy!
  • Npower increased my over 4572 kWh gas price on 1st Oct from 2.149p to 2.519p but are still quoting the previous price for new customers only. Is this legal? Surely they should tell new customers that this is only an introductory rate and that they will raise prices after the customer has signed up. This is obviously a dishonest way to get to the top of the comparison tables. I contacted energyhelpline.com last week and they said they had received complaints but as of today have done nothing about it as far as I am aware.

You do not say if SoL 5 is more expensive than SoL 4.

Like you I joined nPower in april this year on SoL 4, and now find that SoL 6 is £150 cheaper than I am paying( but only available to new customers!),my new rates are post Oct 1 prices inc VAT gas first 4572 kw 4.478, the rest 2.519. Elec first 728 kw 19.45 rest 9.14, night rate 3.82. I am in east mids.

I think it is a big fraud by nPower to ensure that they top the switching charts and once they have got you they up the prices and then entice other suckers with new tariffs.

I had better change my ID now to notnpower!!
