Just received approval for a £150 cashback claim on the cooker purchased last month, this should be with me wihtin 30 days and will be paid straight off the credit card. :)

Thanks - that prompted me to start the cashback claim off for the one I ordered last week! I won't get it fully approved until it's delivered (Jan) - but at least it's registered :)

Not much to report, it's been a fairly low spend weekend and all that I did spend, I spent in cash from my purse so nothing has come out of the bank account.

My remaining ebay items end today. They're not going to make a great deal at the moment, but it's better than nothing.
The items that sold locally were picked up as planned on Saturday, so that's cleared a bit of space.
I have one item to pack for postage and two items that need returning - although it will be 3 when a parcel arrives today as its arrived too late and will be sent straight back.

I'd earmarked money towards DS's swimming lessons this month but just found out it doesn't need to be paid until mid january now, so that's freed up £26 in this month's budget. I've transferred £20 to the savings which rounds it up to £1800 and the £6 can sit in the account for now. :)

Money comes in one hand and out of the other... I had a reminder that DS's dinner money account was running low, so I've topped that up by £15. I must have miscalculated at the beginning of the term as I thought I'd covered it until Christmas. :o

Ebay items ended last night, didn't make a lot - just under £20 - but it's better than nothing. I need to package those up tonight.

I managed to get a few more Christmas presents wrapped last night and will get a few more done tonight, hopefully. I'd like to get it done by this weekend.
OH came over for food last night and brought leftovers from Sunday's roast dinner with him which we tucked into for dinner. :)
Tonight is all sorted too for both DS and I.

One refund for £10.83 has hit the account and I've had confirmation of the £114 one which I returned yesterday, so that should be credited back to the credit card shortly. I also need to arrange return of another Amazon parcel that came too late (and looked like someone had sat on it ).

I've just paid my credit card off with savings (again :o:(). I've overspent on it again this past month, but it bothers me having a balance on it and I'd rather throw money at building up the savings than paying off a credit card, so my savings are now down to £1000 but the credit card should be paid off once the refunds due to it have been credited.

Now to build the savings back up...

  • Hi MeandO,

I'd been wondering how you were getting on. Well done on getting money overpaid on the mortgage. Amazing to read how much your term will be reduced by if you are able to keep up overpayments.

Sorry to read about your mum's health. Hope that 2018 will be a good year for you.

Thank you HSL and Happy New Year to you. I hope you had a lovely Christmas and New year. I took a bit of an MSE break over the festive period and have a few diaries to catch up on when I get a moment.

The holiday period was rather stressful, for many reasons unfortunately, but I won't/can't go into them on here. I'm just hoping things start improving and looking up soon, for everyone.

So, to the finances... I've finally got YNAB working on my phone again now and so I am up to date with everything there. The child benefit and tax credit has been paid this month.

The savings are now at £1250 but I may have to borrow £50 or £60 from it to cover a policy excess of £60 on a heating repair I had to make a call out for today. :(A radiator has been leaking and the usual tightening of various bits didn't work, so I had to have a new 'shiny bit'. :o
There are also other issues within the house that I discovered at the weekend relating to water and one of the chimneys, but I'll deal with it when I can. I'm guessing it will be expensive and I just don't have the money presently.

The credit card has a balance of £70 on it which I'm not concerned about. It will get paid off asap. I'm due a refund of £20 to it too so that will bring it down to the £50 mark.

I received the £150 cashback from the cooker. I didn't need to use it to pay off the credit card after all, but I bought an item of furniture with it and had £70 left to top up the bank account.
I've chased the £50 Amazon card from a british gas policy and that should be here within the next couple of weeks - apparently.

DS isn't back at school until next week, but I've topped his dinner money account up by £50 in readiness. This should last him a long way to Easter, although I will need to top up again by about £15 before then.

I have spent just shy of £100 on clothes and shoes for DS in the sales, since Christmas. He seemed to ougrow everything all at once. I've got a lot for my money though and bought things on the larger size, so they should do him for some time. I need to sort out his drawers and see if there is any small stuff that can be ebayed.

The car is loaded up with bags for the chairty shop which have been hanging around since before Christmas. I plan on dropping them off shortly this afternoon - I hope the charity shop is open! It has certainly cleared my spare room considerably.

No further mortgage overpayments to report, except for the normal one of £18.39 which I now pay monthly by rounding the mortgage payment up by standing order. I hope to be able to make/find/squeeze enough out of the budget to be able to overpay by at least another £50 this month but it will be very tight.

I have managed to get lots of YS bargains at the supermarkets since I last posted. One evening in particular, everything in the clearance section at one supermarket was reduced to 5p and I managed to save get £22.55's worth of produce for only 50p!
Last week I saved over £30 in YS bargains in one go and yesterday OH and I bought some 'posh' pizzas at 90% off, fruit and veg for pennies and loads of parsnips which we shall be making into parsnip soup. We have eaten well for very little this Christmas and New Year and have lots left in the freezer from our shopping successes!

Charity shop stuff successfully dropped off yesterday. I already have one more bin bag full in my boot now from OH's house. I'll sort through DS's clothes before making the next trip to the charity shop as I know there'll be some to donate.

£5.99 spent on some groceries last night, forgot to buy onions to make HM soup with tonight, so need to pop to a shop for those. £29 spent today on some presents in the sale, ready for birthdays/next christmas. I will transfer the money from the presents account for those.

YNAB is all up to date.

The mortgage is now down to £78,172.87. It would be nice if I could raise the £172.87 to drop it down to the £77ks this month, but that's about as likely as me winning the lottery (and I don't play it), but a girl can live in hope. Maybe I'll just start with the £2.87... ;)

I've just re-jigged some money from the fuel allocation in YNAB as I won't need as much as budgeted this month. That's freed up a little bit of money to be able to overpay the mortgage, so I've sent £12.87 to it, just to round down the number. ;)

New mortgage balance now at: £78,160.
