Have been a lurker on this thread for most of last year so can I join in? A spray of perfume and a pair of earrings and I feel all dressed up. Never thought of wearing perfume everyday but will from now on. Have painted my toenails a very dark red! Will have a tidy of my makeup drawer in the new year. I bought the Boots No 7 advent calendar and now have loads of little sizes of makeup.

Sweaty Betty, have you thought about shellac? Both Maman and I have it done regularly and it allows your nail to grow stronger and protects while doing so. I have an allotment and my nails are always immaculate due to the shellac ;)

    Thanks Floss :)
I've thought about it, and asked my beauty therapist, but she said that as my nails are so soft it would improve the longevity of the nail polish but only by days - & I'm too tight to pay out for short term benefit ;). I might do it one day if I need good nails for a special occasion though.

I've just been on the johnlewis sale page and bought a dress - long and black - since I go to 1-2 posh events per year I needed a decent plain dress that (I hope) I can get away with wearing more than once. There's not much else I need this year and I'm determined not to impulse buy :money:

Once I've got rid of this cold/flu I'm going to kick off my skin care routine - I'm sure I look like death ATM!
  • Hello all and welcome newbies,
This thread really is lovely... :)

I use IBD gel or gellish depend on colour I choose- I prefer IBD and my friend does my nails once every 3 weeks and this has helped me grown them from badly bitten. I love them.

Anyway have a lovely Christmas everyone... Thoughts with those who need them & hugs n high fives...

Now get to bed for Santa :)
  • Hello, I'd like to join this thread as I feel like I've really let myself go and don't make enough effort - I have a reunion in October and would like to look and feel good.

Sweaty betty - I used to have nails that would break and flake at anything until I stopped using nail clippers and now I just file them weekly and use organic cold pressed coconut oil on them every night before bed - I got it off Amazon for around a fiver and I also use it for my hair and as a body moisturiser. I don't have hangnails/dry skin anymore and my nails are twice as strong. I don't use nail polish as I'm trying to reduce the chemicals in my life but I had the shellac done for holiday a few months ago and it lasted almost three weeks before a chip.

I want to lose half a stone a month and make more effort with my wardrobe - I usually wear the same vest tops/cardigans/denim/trainers all the time. I would like to wear more of my jewellery and make up - I usually just use mascara powder and concealer but would love to look more polished.

beluga - volunteer work is amazing, it's really helped my self confidence, people skills, and is so rewarding although it can be hard work. It's great to give something back and also gain skills and experience to enhance your life.

    Good morning lovely ladies.

Hope you all had a thoroughly enjoyable Christmas day.

My boys and I had a nice quiet day and, although I did shed just a couple of tears they didn't hit until after 11 pm so I almost managed the whole day:rotfl: anyway we just did very little and I feel fine.

I'm stil in my pjs and I shall have some breakfast and then have a nice little pamper and get fabbed up and go and visit my parents and my sister.

My DS2.bought me the Nutribullet juicer and my DS1 bought me a selection of books about building your own house - so I guess that's me sorted for next year. Lots of healthy smoothies and juices and build my own house........that should keep me out of mischief.;)

Is it me or is the TV advertising all a bit much this year, just about every single advert on the TV was for the sales, especially during the breaks of Downton Abbey, which also kept plugging it's sponsors.

Maybe I'm turning into a snobbish, grumpy old woman, but I just find this continual bombardment with exhortations to spend, spend, spend utterly crass and tasteless.

Well my purse is staying shut for the next few days and I won't be venturing near the sales - so there.

Welcome to our newbies. It's always nice to see new faces. Dont worry I'm not usually in the habit of moaning .........:rotfl:

Happy Boxing Day to you all!

I'd like to join too if I may, I'm roughly six stone overweight and really want to start feeling more fit and energetic again. I've missed it since I've become big. I've missed having a waist too, I'm only 5'2" so six extra stones have given me a ball-like shape! :rotfl:

Seriously, I'd be happy to lose any weight at all and I'd love to be able to run a bit and climb a couple of flights of stairs without getting out of breath, so I've joined a gym and plan to overhaul and simplify my diet once Christmas is over. I got a fitness tracker for christmas, so need to get that set up and start counting my steps.

I work full time and rarely get to leave work on time, so food will be simple, to give me time to exercise and socialise.

Lessonlearned, I totally agree about the adverts, the constant urging us to buy buy buy is totally crass! Insensitive too, when you consider how many people are struggling financially these days.
