DMP Mutual Support Thread (Part 5)

Once again the old thread was getting a bit large, so here is a fresh thread. :)

The previous thread can be found here: Click ---> DMP Mutual Support Thread (Part 4)

This is the latest list I can find, unless anyone else can spot a more updated version?

Thanks Fermi. I think we need an intro post for these threads, anyone want to help "build" one?

If you all want to put one together, then I'll happily edit the first post of this thread to include it.

Then when the time comes again for a new thread, one of you or a BG can use it.

All the contributors to the threads are probably the best at deciding what needs to be said at the start.

    Hi

Quick question, I have been on the CCCS/debt remedy and come up with a payment of around £220 a month for a £18000 debt but not done the registration form yet but am looking at starting a DMP in about 3 months time. Can anyone on a DMP let me know what the CCCS will need to see from me in terms of bank statements or anything like that please? Will they just accept what I tell them my outgoings are or will they need proof. If so, how many months statements etc do they normally ask for?

Thanks for your help and good luck to all of you on DMPs

Hi they ask for proof of income - one wage slip - and your latest statements from your debts (ie latest credit card bill etc).

That's all. They don't ask for proof of outgoings but do have a limit on what is considered "reasonable" for your situation (eg food costs if you are single, married etc).

Obviously the higher you put your outgoings, the longer it will take to pay it off though ;)

Also, I think the intro for this thread should refer people to CCCS/Payplan, NDL etc for advice and also comment on what a DMP is (I didn't have a clue what it meant when I came on here, had never even heard of a Debt Management Plan :o).

I know the links are in fermi's signature but if there was a comment as to why they are the best source of advice (free) that might help.

  • Do I still count as being on a DMP when there is only one creditor left on a reduced payment?

    Thanks newlywed

That seems fair enough. Anything else that I need to bear in mind before I enter into one other than the obvious stuff like I can't get any more credit etc? For example, i'm thinking that if I spend anything on non-essentials the month before I go on it I should use cash and not use my bank card as they may look unfavourably on it if I have card payments in a pub or restaurant even if they are only very small.

    Thanks again

Well I bought food shopping and petrol etc on my cards the month before the DMP - one said they refused the DMP due to recent use of the card but then accepted a couple of months later.

I would say you have to budget for everything in the future - it's a hard thing to learn :o for me anyway :o So car repairs, mot, new tyres etc - you need savings accounts to squirrel away the money where you won't touch it ;) I've had to open a couple of accounts without online banking so it's a bit more difficult to get to as I keep spending my MOT money on food and the gas meter :o

And I'd say add a bit of leeway into your figures so that when petrol goes back up and food carries on rising, you don't need to ask for a review after 2 months - although you can of course request reviews when your circumstances change - I've recently reduced my payments after 18 months on the DMP due to no pay rise but rising food, petrol, rent, gas etc. No-one has complained ;)

    And just to add....

I miss spending sprees on clothes and shoes (now shop in charity shops and ebay to get more clothes for my money ;)

I miss holidays and when everyone asks where you're going this year... it stinks!

Just have to remember I never really had the money for those things and that's why I'm in this mess ;)

  • Hi new thread!!

Newlywed - so know what you're describing... I miss mindless spending sprees - it's a deep longing that I don't think will ever go away completely. Madness!

My news... still waiting for CCCS to call back for a review to up my payments. Hmmnnn, maybe this is no bad thing, as I get to keep a bit more cash for a month or 2 over Christmas!
