Can you circulate this around especially as Christmas is fast approaching — it has been confirmed by Royal Mail. The Trading Standards Office are making people aware of the following scam:
A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS (Parcel Delivery Service) suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and that you need to contact them on 0906 6611911 (premium rate number). DO NOT call this number, as this is a mail scam originating from Belize.
If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will already have been billed £15 for the phone call.
If you do receive a card with these details, then please contact Royal Mail Fraud on 0207236655 or ICSTIS (the premium rate service regulator) at www.icstis.org.uk

I am sure this has come up before, but I got a call from an enthusiastic young man earlier announcing that I have won a holiday for 4. ( I have been comping a lot lately, not that I have won anything, so I presume he got his details from something I filled in.) The freephone number he told me to ring was 08009889904 . A googlesearch leads me to believe that it is one of those things where to claim your "prize" you have to go to a sales pitch and are pressured into buying a timeshare of a property or something. Thankfully I was cynical enough to begin with, and never truly believed I had won anything, but it must really upset people who genuinely believe they have won a nice prize. The fellow I spoke to was very convincing, and generous with his "congratulations". I don't know how these phone operators sleep at night, really.

There is a number to ring - quoted as normal telephone rate - and a gift confirmation number.
There was also a compliments slip with it from: Survey UK, Matters Consulting Ltd t/a Survey UK, Victoria House, 1 Gloucester Road, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, GL51 8LN
From what I have read on here, if I ring the number, I will be offered a gym membership! So i won't bother! :rotfl:
As they seem to target one area at a time, it looks like they have moved onto the Bristol area, so be warned!

Got a phone call at 8.20pm last night and a bloke said i had won a competition (i enter so many i cant remember) and i thought it was legit as i have a new number and dont often give it out.
He said i had won a hair and make up treatment for me and a friend + a photo shoot and unlimited refreshments then i could take a photo home.
i asked where they were and he said oxford street.
i asked the name of the company but it was hard to here him, something... studios.
All sounded great until.....
i had to pay £30 per person refundable on the day to confirm i was going.
1 i dont pay over the phone and 2 i shouldnt have to pay (even if refundable) for winning a competition!
He said he was emailing me the details but didnt so when he rang me back today i told him to lump it
Exactly the same thing has happened to me. I did enter the competition and I have a name for the company and address but I am very very sceptical about all this. What do you think?0 -
I recieved a call yesterday saying I had won a holiday to the carribean and to press 9 on my phone. I didn't cos I instantly knew it was a scam cos I don't enter hol comps for carribean as I have young children!
Also I got an email from weather wherever saying I could get a free photo calender but it turned out it would have cost me nearly £6 in the end. I get lots of emails from fedex which I just delete and also lots of lotto letters which are usually fake.Big thanks to all who contribute to the forums. Be lucky everyone and be safe!0 -
