Have you tried to claim compensation for flight delays?

  • I submitted a claim to Thomsom, via email, in May and was told they would deal with my enquiry within 8 weeks. In August I chased and was told that claims were being dealt with "in date order". I contacted a legal firm who specialise in claims to ascertain their fee. My flight was delayed in December 2010 and I am now concerned that Thomson will evade paying by citing Statute of Limitations. I have now received an email from the legal firm I contacted to say that Thomson are paying them my compensation in the next 14 days - and all I need to do is formally instruct them and they will send me the money. All very strange. I am thinking of issuing a claim via the small claims court.

Wife and me had a flight delay with Thomson of just over 24 hours from Rhodes to Birmingham on 21-05-16.Cup final day, should have flown out late sat. night but ended up late sun. night. Then i did some revision about compensation, which this site helped a lot.Made a claim on their website and 56 days later recieved an email stating that they had recieved our claim. It also said that they process them all in the order in which they are recieved, thats fine and thank you for your time and patience untill you are contacted. The question i have is this;does anyone have any idea of how long this could take. Thanks for any info.

    Hi,

Based on the time it took them to initially reply and other cases, I would say a very long time.

Use that time to send them a LBA so that they know you are prepared to take it further if they do not settle with you.

If you are prepared to wait patiently they will leave you on the back burner until they are ready, if ever.

Take control and issue a LBA.

    Good luck.

If you have not instructed a claims firm then as you say do it yourself. You are running out of time so download and read Vaubans guide and send them a NBA (explained in the guide) give them 14 days and if no success you will have to issue court proceedings. They must be issued before the 6 year time limit 5 years if you live in Scotland. Do Not play ping pong with them!!!
  • attempting to claim from ba for flight ba 1391 30th august, been denied due to not enough ground handling resources which meant we would miss our connecting flight at heathrow to san diego, we were re routed to los angeles on flight ba269 from heathrow which then had a computer problem and was delayed causing us to miss our connection at los angeles to san diego . would this be considered one event due to flight ba1391 being late or would the fact that the re routed flight was again delayed be treated as a separate case.

Just the one claim, which seems valid from the information provided.

Just a quick note to say I successfully claimed for compensation on American Airlines from Dublin to New York. Our flight was on 23rd August and I used the Resolver claim app to apply for it.

It did help that we were in the business class lounge and could see the aircraft being moved out of its stance and off to the hangar for repairs. From reading various reports, I thought I was in for the long haul (sorry, no pun intended!) with AA refusing to pay up but really surprised how easy and straightforward it was.

Now had to use the Resolver app to chase up Aer Lingus for losing my baggage between Edinburgh and Dublin - yes...no clothes in New York either!

Without trawling the whole thread, has anyone compiled a list of particular flights that many people have claimed for?

Too many. If you have a particular airline/flight may be worth posting on the appropriate airline thread although remember a 'win' or claim by someone on the same flight does not mean success for you as no precedent set however it may give you more confidence to proceed.

No, because there have been so many over the years.
And we will only see a small proportion of those here.
If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide

    The alleged Ringleader.........
  • Our family of 4, with 2 young children, was delayed in Shannon for 2 miserable days after our connecting flight to Boston was cancelled in 2013. We were given curly sandwiches and then a hotel room and food before eventually being flown to Heathrow to then fly out to Boston.

Having missed 3 days of our holiday, I requested compensation from the airline who rejected it. I then took the matter to the Irish airline ombudsman. 3 months later I had a comprehensive response detailing the nature of the problems leading to the delay and cancellation of the flight. It was very interesting but upheld the airline's decision not to pay out.

A few months ago (2017) I was reading the article about claiming for flight delays and Resolver. Although I did not expect anything, I spent 5 minutes completing the form and hey presto, received an email from the airline confirming they will pay out. I have now received the cheques for £558 for each of us.
    Thank you.
