Car insurance cancellation fee

Options
I have just been charged £25 for cancelling my churchills car insurance.
They renewed it automatically without my permision - I forgot to cancel in time but did so within 14 days of the renewal.
Surely they can't charge me for cancelling something I did not ask for???
Does anyone know my rights?

You gave your permission by not contacting them to cancel it.

Yes they can. Check your renewal letter and you will see it clearly states that it will automatically renew if you do not contact them. Check the T&Cs and you will see they have a published cancellation charge (as do most insurers).

You have none. FOS generally accepts fees upto £50 as acceptable and your complaint would be that you didnt read the paperwork and there is only one party responsible for that I'm afraid.
