Some people will have a higher take home, so they can put more into savings, some others on their include pension and mortgage payments in their totals.

That said this thread is about saving what you can, in relation to your income, its 12k as its a number (goal) to work against.

You tell Slowlyfading your number you want as your goal, and away you go, even if it £5 a week its still saving, which is a step in the right direction.

Although its always suggested to pay off any debts before saving, you don't mention any debt, so keep that in mind.

    Hi Sam
I agree with Westie. I've been a saver for over 50 years - since my Gran used to keep her thrupenny bits for me as pocket money. I used to enjoy going to the Post Office and getting my little book stamped when I paid the money in.
Now I'm retired but I do some part time jobs - I don't count my pension as I live off that but I count all the earnings any gifts and money off vouchers I get. It just happens that I was given £5k in January towards a car and then a savings account matured in February.
It sounds a bit odd but I keep a small notebook and fill it in every day. Just as I'm looking I see I saved 95p in Ocado and £3 from Check Out Smart - even the tiny amounts add up and when someone gives me a gift like a bunch of daffs (yesterday) I estimate the price and count that as a saving - why not give it a try you might surprise yourself when you see how little things can count as a saving for you.

    Sam, Matey,
    YOU DECIDE! YOU!
I've read your other thread and for you this is an ambitious target. You don't need my approval or anyone else's approval. YOU already know what is possible.

Now either do it, or don't do it.

If you succeed, that's an achievement. Achievements are good. But TRYING, REALLY GIVING YOUR BEST SHOT, is much much better.

You have your answer. Catch you at XMas for your update.

There are people here who have much more monthly income than you (or I). Set your own target and judge your own success or failure. No-one else's business.

Not a good update this month. Some unexpected hugely expensive costs came up meaning I've had to dip into my savings. So my figure for this month is -£4904.48. Definitely not going to get to 12k this year as it's going to take me months just to get back to where I was. But I'm not going to change the target as I have no idea what I will be able to achieve overall this year.
