Problem drilling into a wall

I have a garage constructed with concrete sections - about four inches thick, and pebble dashed on the outside.
I trying to drill holes in it, all I seem to achieve is a slight crater!
It has been done in the past - had a PIR security light fitted, and have managed hols in the past - with difficulty. But now, after alignment, the 'hole' must be in a position - through a chipping.
It doesn't seem to make any difference what size masonry drill I use.
So, is it the drill I'm using not being powerful enough? Mine is 810 watt.

I assume you are using a hammer drill ???
It may well be the masonry bits you are using, I find that the De Walt Extreme 2 bits work very well.0 -
My house has concrete wall and I struggled for years with a normal hammer drill.
Last year I splashed out and bought a Makita SDS drill. Wish I had done it years ago. Like drilling into butter!0 -

Yes, one I got from Wickes some years ago, tried the d/bits with the drill, and those from a Bosch set - no difference. Usually, the drill is great, but I hardly making any impression on this B*** wall.I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0 -
Hammer mode is selected?
(and do make sure you have safety glasses on)0 -
I reckon your concrete walls are post tensioned. Take heed...although your walls are fairly thin it can still be dangerous.0

You'd be better off buying this.

As per above. Use an SDS hammer drill. I struggled for years without and recently had to drill a number of holes for some CCTV cameras. The SDS drill goes through masonry like butter.0
