There's fun to be had in bad weather too, but it always looks worse when you're sat indoors peering out of the window at it. Having to go out in it helps overcome that inertia.

I agree, I've yet to find a turbo that I can commute to work on. :)

While i've been searching, i've found this. It's more than i was wanting to pay, but it's a fluid trainer, which you tell me is better It's got loads of reviews and they're nearly all 5*

Do you think i'm better going for this rather than paying £50/£60 om ebay for a magnetic trainer.
  • Aldi will have a turbo trainer for fifty quid in their next Cycling event on 28th September for anyone who's been considering one but put off by the price.

This model has been sold many times from £14 to less than £50 on ebay if you look at completed listings on Ebay, many hardly used. Worth trying both Gumtree and Preloved as well for anyone local..Also try Amazon if you are intent on brand new, they can maybe beat Wiggle and other big bike shops. Planet X do sales as well
.People buy them with good intentions then pack in after a couple of times..Strange they are mostly pick up only.
The box mine came in was nt too bulky.
You may be one of those next year listing your new virtually unused turbo trainer so I would carry on looking for a week or two and get a nearly new oil filled model for less than £60 rather than any magnetic type
  • Thanks, If that cycling magazine is giving Aldi a mention, it may be decent stuff. It says the offers come on the 28th Sept, so i'll wait and see.
I never thought about Gumtree, or looked at Preloved. Just been there and there are a couple not to far away, although they look the cheapie ones. Some people on there are selling things which are really good bargains, but others are asking almost the new price.
I'm not in a hurry, and for what i need it, i don't need a top-of-the-range, i'm never going to hammer it.
    Thanks everyone for your advice.
  • I was given one from somebody who is an international triathlon cyclist... it was throwaway cheap in his world... £200 ~12 years ago ... so a ridiculous small fortune in my world.

I used it once.... full of good intentions.
I got bored .... too easily.

slap bang in front of a telly though - and have the sound up loud... else it's boring watching the wall.

Agreed el cheapo trainers are just plain nasty as you found out.

I got a Taxc Neo last year and linked it up to Zwift. It's crackingly good fun and can quite easily spend an hour+ on it. Downside is that it's about £1000 plus £8/mth.

I agree. I got the Neo's slightly cheaper cousin, the Kickr, and it provides entertainment as well as fitness.
I take part in some of the races on Zwift, which are blistering! I do the ZHR Masters in the winter season. It's banded in age ranges, so it's cool to see who I can keep up with in my age category, and younger.
