  • Afternoon all, my day got off to a terrible start, slept until 10:eek:. Got the shock of my life, especially as I woke at 8:30, looked at my watch & obviously went straight back to sleep. I have never been out of bed so fast, showered, stripped bed, washing machine on and in car as I had to be at hairdresser for 11! Going there without a coffee was hell but gratefully accepted one offered there. In my defence (?), I started ironing about 7:30 last night & finished 2 1/2 hrs later. So glad I did the washing up before I went to bed, would have hated to come back & face that :o

Got home about an hour ago, so emptied machine, another load on, quick tidy up of kitchen, coffee & sandwich. Got to do the housework now & then sort out packing for my holiday, going to Egypt end of month, so I need to sort out what the family have ordered & then work out how big the second case will be. I am flying with Egyptair so my ticket includes 2 23kg cases allowance, so lucky that way, however ideally I would like to be able to only carry one home, so need to sort out how I can carry one inside the other if I can.

Not done that much Christmas wise, think i will put on hold until I get back, of course, if I see something while away, I could be persuaded to buy it :D

Evening everyone, i have been well and truly told off by my kids today when they found out i hadnt reordered my meds, especially when i cried my eyes out after spending 4 hrs on the computer sorting out my photos into folders etc and then they all disappeared, i was distraught and rang DS at work, he told me what to do and i managed to restore them (blooming computers) so MRSINVISIBLE you arent the only one to tell me off, the thing is i didnt have any money to buy a pre paid certificate then it just went out of my mind, until i kept feeling strange then i realised  so have ordered a PPC today and will ring up repeat prescriptions to order some more

MRSMONEYPENNY oh you do lead such a busy life, i feel like an old person compared to what you do/get done, ahh how lovely to cross stitch a christmas stocking for DGS, what a lovely keepsake (i bet you love typing DGS :)) how are they all getting on?

PRINCESSKITTY i sure do hope so :D well he goes down about 7.30-8 and then wakes up about 6ish but is quite happy in cot until about 7 then he wants his bottle, im worried my snoring will wake him  and although i have a venetian blind it is still quite light in the mornings, and then im thinking will he be cold as this bungalow isnt the warmest but i have told myself what will be will be, its only one night and wont affect his usual routine at home. I know that is what fascinates me about this cake, i had to give it a go! Being productive is satisfying because it doesnt happen a lot around here :rotfl:Make the most of having DH around for the summer with wiggle, as it will go so quick before you know it he will be at work again :) Hope the recipes are nice.

MRSINVISIBLE omg me shame you????:rotfl:at least you are still being productive, i am usually on my bottom so i have to get on when i have guag because its so hit and miss when it will be back again :rotfl::rotfl:oh your poor friend, mines not too bad today heehee. Congratulations on your friends daughters new baby, that is another lovely name as well Ollie, i also have another nephew called that :) Wow 4000 plants !!! That must be lovely having people to do jobs and you do something in return for them, it will never happen to me because i am so antisocial :)

GETTINGTHEREQUICKLY oh poor you, it gives you such a start doesnt it? And its always when you have to be somewhere!! You are so good getting housework done as well even though you were behind schedule! Hope you have a fab time in Egypt, my DD1 will be so jealous, she wants to go back too!!

  • mrsinvisible yes that's why I set myself the challenge of doing at least one thing a month from Pinterest as I was forever pinning and not doing anything! Wow I can't believe you have 4000 plants! It's so nice that you can share with neighbours and help each other out. I don't know my neighbours that well, but for the first time since leaving home I know who my neighbours are and chat to them when I see them. It's nice to have a sense of community. Congrats on your friends daughters baby, Ollie is a lovely name. :) Enjoy bath time!

Gettingtherequickly arrrghhh that always happens when you have somewhere to be doesn't it??! Take my lovely son for example, he pretty much always wakes up around 5/5:30am, but the other day after an early morning wake up (3am) we managed to settle him back to sleep and he then didn't wake up until 7:15 which ordinarily would have been amazing but we had to be at the doctors at 8:30! So I had 45 minutes to get us both up and dressed, feed him breakfast and get everything out the door! We never have to be any where that early but on the one day he sleeps in...

freespirit I think your little man will be just fine. We've taken wiggle to stay in various places and he's always been just the same as he is at home so i'm sure it'll be ok. Let us know how the cake goes!

Looks like it's not going to be so bright outside here today. We're going to pop to the garden centre today to but a plastic greenhouse. I've planted a few things from seed and now have tomato plants, swiss chard, rocket, mixed salad leaves and basil. I wasn't sure if I was going to do very well with the tomato plants as I've heard they can be temperamental, but I now have 7 plants going strong. I fear we may end up with more tomatoes than we know what to do with though!

PrincessKitty You could always make some soup using the tomatoes if you end up with lots of big ones. On the other hand, you could just eat them off the stalk - the homegrown ones taste better than shop bought ones. :)

Freespirit Prescriptions in England are so expensive. I think that one of the reasons why the Scottish government abolished prescription charges is so people would be able to be prescribed medication without the GP having to worry about if the patient could afford the cost of the prescription.

Yes, I know it is 8 months away but it looks like I am "doing Christmas" this year for one reason or another, not least the increasing number of grandchildren including, by then, if all goes well, two for whom it will the their "first Christmas". So, that will be, 9 adults, a seven year old, a six year old, a four year old, an eleven month old and a newborn. Great stuff, I am really looking forward to it all but feel that I need to be ultra organized following a disaster the Christmas before last when I could see people forcing down my offerings. We had unexpected guests who decided to congregate in my kitchen (not huge) when it came to me trying to time the dinner. Great to see them, but not in my kitchen, not at that time.

We got over it and I was assure that it was "the best ever", lol. Oh how they lied!

Anyway, I have lots of time to plan and it is going to be wonderful, even if I get a bit of help (not in my kitchen tho'). I was recently pleased to pick up a "like new" hostess trolley for free which can now replace the one I gave away in a mad moment, thinking I would never use it.

Anyway, within reason, money is not a problem and I am looking seriously at buying in some quality ready made bits and pieces to make my life as easy as possible but not sure what are the best things to consider buying in and what's best made at home. I have limited freezer space and no point in buying one specially, I don't think. Also a standard double oven, not nearly big enough.

I get bombarded with leaflets from the likes of Donald Russell and have purchased from them before. They are fine. Has anyone bought from other "specialist" places for Christmas, if so, what is good and what is not.

Obviously I don't intend to order anything for months yet but I just need to get my head around what's possible, what's quality etc.

I am not going to panic, it will all be under control......

Evening everyone, brrrr we have had to put the heating back on tonight for a couple of hours  it was freezing in here, i was hoping when i turned it off on easter sunday that that would be it until autumn :(

PRINCESSKITTY oh no i had to laugh when you said about the one day you had to be somewhere wiggle slept in, its s*ds law isnt it? Well the cake was so easy to make and looks fab, i havent tasted it yet as had a big roast beef dinner and im still full, mind you the recipe does say it gets better and better with age, so i will let you know tomorrow :) If you end up with green tomatoes at the end of the season, i made a green tomato chutney and yumm it was blooming gorgeous.

3FORHOLIDAYS oh arent they???? you are so lucky not having to pay, i have 4 to 5 different meds each month so at £8.20 a throw i just cannot do it, i try to pay for the pre paid certificate, so at least i am saving a fortune with that at £29.10 for three months, so i am saving up to £94 by doing that  you also have free hospital car parking dont you?

WHITESATIN hello i remember you, i dont blame you wanting to get organised for christmas when you have a crowd to cater for! Oh poor you having to cook christmas dinner under those circumstances i would have been tearing my hair out!! I dont know if you have used M&S before for ready made/quality foods, i personally havent but i know quite a few treat themselves to M&S food at christmas on these boards or Waitrose?

Thanks, freespirit66. For some reason my "thanks" button seems to have disappeared. Weird.

I might go online to see if I can find some ideas from last year that were popular.

Yes it was a difficult meal to cook the year before last and it still makes me cringe. Last year my daughter and her husband cooked for everyone but her baby is due on 1st December so that takes care of that get-out!

Freespirit, re the meds, if you get your meds every month have you tried asking the surgery to prescribe two months at a time? They probably won't do it if your meds change because of the potential for waste but if your meds don't change much it could be worth asking as it would halve your costs because you pay for each medicine regardless of how much of the medicine they give you. My GP does it for my tablets that I take for my irregular heartbeat which is really useful. Good luck, it's such a lot of money to find when you're on a strict budget.
It's the most wonderful timeof the year :

Freespirit Not all hospital car parking in Scotland is free. :(

The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh has parking charges as it was built under a PFI agreement. Glasgow Royal Infirmary & Ninewells Hospital in Dundee also currently have parking charges.

Our local acute hospital (recently built) has a restricted time limit of 4 hours and staff parking permits (which is fine in principle) but not all the staff got a permit so their cars are parked on the approach roads to the hospital and in the residential areas surrounding the hospital.

It baffles me why they didn't build a multi-story car park for the staff!

Hope everyone is keeping well! :) Away to enter some competitions now! :D

Evening everyone, i have had another productive day, 5 hrs of housework :eek: i dont know what has come over me?? I am now wondering if it is my meds that slow me down and make me cba a lot of the time?? Not sure but it does seem very weird. Anyway, whole house cleaned and tidied, travel cot all put up in my bedroom, high chair brought down from loft because im sure he will fit in it now, and it is a different option for him to sit in and be entertained :) i cant wait now, to just spend time with him will be fab. DD2 already stressing about leaving him overnight, i will give them both strict instructions to not think about him tomorrow night while they are out and to have a long lie in on weds morning, make the most of it. Just watched the new drama on itv 'Safe House' was a bit edge of the seat stuff.

WHITESATIN you have no reason to cringe at all my lovely, i remember when my exH sister and family turned up out of the blue late christmas morning one year, and i ended up burning the parsnips because i couldnt concentrate, ahh a tiny baby for christmas, my DGS was 8 weeks old last christmas day it was lovely

PEPPAPIG ahh that would mean having to make an appt haha i have managed to not see a doctor for about 18 months, the last appt i made i had a massive panic attack in the night worrying about it, so have tried to avoid going since but i really do need to check in especially with high blood pressure :(

3FORHOLIDAYS oh that is interesting, i thought it was all over scotland, oh the parking at our local hosp is absolutely awful, it is a multi storey but not big enough and you go round and round and round trying to find a space, nobody knows where they are going, then you get people who are getting more and more pi**ed off and start shouting and doing stupid things grrr yet the one in the town the other side of me is massive but people dont like parking there because you have to go up a mountain of steps to reach the hospital :o How many comps have you gone in for now?
